Job Summary

The Quality Control Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with all contract documents, specifications, and regulatory requirements for rail and transit construction projects. This is a field-focused role with a key presence on active job sites across the Chicago metro area. The ideal candidate brings a proactive, detail-oriented approach to quality management and is comfortable working in fast-paced, high-safety environments such as live rail systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage project-specific Quality Control Plans (QCPs) aligned with client, agency, and internal standards.

  • Conduct and document all quality inspections, testing procedures, and verifications in accordance with specifications and regulatory requirements.

  • Interface with project owners, transit agencies (e.g., CTA, Metra), subcontractors, and third-party inspectors to resolve non-conformances and maintain quality expectations.

  • Lead quality-focused pre-activity meetings, ensuring all parties understand scope, requirements, and standards.

  • Track, review, and maintain documentation including submittals, RFIs, material certifications, and test results.

  • Support project teams in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action plans.

  • Coordinate with Safety and Operations teams to ensure a unified field execution strategy.

  • Contribute to lessons learned and company-wide quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in heavy civil or rail-related construction with a focus on quality control or construction inspection.

  • Proven knowledge of rail/transit infrastructure construction standards and materials (track, platforms, signaling, electrical, etc.).

  • Familiarity with public agency quality requirements (e.g., CTA, Metra, Amtrak, IDOT, FTA).

  • Strong understanding of ISO standards, ACI, AASHTO, ASTM, and related construction quality protocols.

  • OSHA 30 and relevant certifications (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Manager, ACI, NICET) are a plus.

  • Strong communication, documentation, and reporting skills.

  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, and other construction management software preferred.
