Organization Description : CSTE is an organization of member states and territories representing public health epidemiologist. We also act as the professional home for individuals working in applied public health epidemiologists. CSTE works to advance public health policy and epidemiologic capacity. We provide information, education, and developmental support of practicing epidemiologists in a wide range of areas as well as expertise for program and surveillance efforts. For over six decades CSTE has worked with states to provide technical advice and assistance to partner health agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CSTE offers a hybrid workplace model with the National Office location in Atlanta, GA with a majority of staff located in that area. Most Atlanta based staff telework partly in the National Office and partly from an alternative worksite, such as their home. CSTE also supports a distributed remote workforce across the country. Position Description: Under the general supervision of the Public Health Attorney, the intern will be responsible for supporting a variety of CSTE’s Public Health Law portfolio development and training activities. Open to current law and/or MPH students or recent graduates. The position will be for up to 10 weeks starting end-May depending on the availability of successful candidate. The intern will work closely with the CSTE Public Health Attorney on various initiatives and activities designed to promote and build capacity for implementing data use agreements and/or other legal agreements to exchange for data.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Support dissemination and collection of assessments and convenings of jurisdictional and federal representatives of public health managers from epidemiology, public health law, and data modernization
- Support the development of a public health law repository of best practices related to data use agreements
- Prepare content for CSTE’s Public Health Law Newsletter publications and communications
- Coordinate CSTE legal webinars and training activities with CSTE Partners (virtual and in-person)
- Support CSTE legal development programs, including assisting with increasing membership of CSTE Public Health Law Subcommittee
- Support the development and conduct a point-in-time assessment across STLT jurisdictions to identify data use agreement practices
- Assist with facilitating the CSTE Generating Legal Agreements for Data-Sharing (GLADS) Workgroup
- Support virtual convenings for data-sharing best practices
- Assist with collecting practical data sharing resources to be included in CSTE’s Public Health Law Repository
- Participate in and scheduling conference calls, taking notes, attending meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Education
- Current law school and/or graduate student in public health or a related field, with specific emphasis on public health law
- Knowledgeable with Excel and Outlook
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Other Responsibilities And Activities
Other activities may include participating in conference calls, preparing meeting summaries, attending meetings, communicating with CSTE members and staff, literature reviews, report writing, and administrative duties assigned. This position will provide valuable practical experience for a student interested in a career in public health law.

Knowledge
Applicants should have strong research and writing skills, an interest in public health data sharing laws and policies; and utilize practical tools to apply the law. Skillset
Strong PC skills with proficiency in E-mail, Excel, Word, database management, and Internet. Must be detailed oriented and organized. Must be able to work with limited supervision and on many different projects at one time. Ability to meet tight deadlines with quality work. Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now a plus.
CSTE’s pay structure is establish by grade with each position placed in a grade based on the level of difficulty, duties and responsibilities, knowledge and skill requirements, education and training, and qualifications.
