Summary

: The Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion (KHP) at Cal Poly Pomona invites applications for the position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in the 2025-26 academic year. We are interested in candidates with expertise in Public Health who are excited to lead the development of our Public Health initiatives. This role includes driving forward our new Public Health minor (undergraduate), supporting existing service-learning programming, expanding community collaborations, and strengthening graduate-level scholarship. We are looking for candidates who value the distinctive Cal Poly learn-by-doing approach, exemplify the Teacher Scholar Model, and embody the KHP core values. The successful candidate will be expected to further the diversity and excellence of the academic community through inclusive teaching, research and service. Applicants whose work incorporates a commitment to social change, health equity, and/or a global perspective are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates will develop new courses, modify existing offerings, and may be asked to teach the following depending on expertise and department needs: * KIN 2050 Applied Health and Well-being * KIN 2070 Health and Well-being * KIN 2700 Stress Management for Healthy Living * KIN 2300 Foundations of Public Health and Applied Epidemiology * KIN 3400 Health Disparities and Social Justice * KIN 3600 Research Methods in Health and Human Movement * KIN 4650/A Intervention Design and Evaluation/Activity * KIN 4700 Emotional Wellbeing and Stress Prevention * KIN 5500 Community Engaged Research * KIN 5900 Applied Inquiry and Research Design * KIN 5910 Data Literacy, Analysis, and Synthesis * KIN 5920 Critical Analysis of Research * KIN 5930 Research Colloquium Minimum requirements include: *
  • Doctorate (DPH, PhD, EdD) in Public Health or related field (Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position). * Demonstrates potential to be effective in college teaching related to Public Health * Commitment to contribute, teach, and engage in a multicultural environment with a diverse student body (>50% URM). [Evidence should be provided in a Student Success Statement that responds to the "Inclusive Excellence and Student Success" prompt above]. * Commitment to service-learning, community-engaged learning, community-based participatory research and/or action research. * Demonstrates potential for a strong research, scholarly and creative agenda in Public Health * Demonstrates potential to grow our Public Health footprint with a forward thinking, growth mindset. * Effective interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills. Preferred/Desired Qualifications: *
  • Master's in Public Health (MPH) * Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) * Potential to secure external funding * Experience supervising undergraduate and graduate research * Willingness to develop new courses and/or course materials * Experience successfully collaborating with diverse populations * Experience working in the Public Health field * Involvement and/or leadership positions in professional organizations Conditions of Employment: The person offered this position is required to pass a background check.   • provide official transcripts for highest degree before the on-campus interview; * provide three letters of reference (on letterhead, signed and dated within the last two years); * give a teaching demonstration (topic shall be suggested by the search committee), as well as a scholarly presentation of their research/creative activities to faculty and students.
