Berman Construction, LLC is looking to hire a Controller with at least 10 years’ experience in commercial property management. The ideal candidate for this role, has extensive knowledge in commercial property management accounting, is a detail-oriented individual, a team player and able to oversee the company's financial records and accounting personnel.
Job Summary:
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls.
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements for commercial properties, including comparative income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Provide regular financial reporting and analysis to management regarding property performance and budget variances, to senior management and owners.
- Oversee rent rolls, accounts receivable, and accounts payable for the assigned properties, including reporting on tenant delinquencies and collection proceeding to ownership.
- Coordinate with property managers to ensure accurate forecasting and expense tracking.
- Work closely with property managers, real estate teams, and senior leadership to provide financial insights and improve property profitability within the portfolios.
- Direct and manage property management accounting, lease administration, CAM, escalations.
- Prepare property cash flow forecasts, financial statements, and month-end close.
- Manage and oversee all financial transactions recording and reporting for commercial portfolio.
- Make sound recommendations to enhance efficiency in accounting and reporting functions.
- Strong communication, presentation, accounting and analytical skills. Working knowledge of Yardi software a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee property management accounting team.
- Ensure appropriate controls and procedures are in place for accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Oversee month-end closing, including reviewing financial statements.
- Oversee the preparation of detailed audit work papers in connection with month and year-end financial audit and reporting process.
- Reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers to general ledger and monthly reports
- Utilize existing accounting systems to automate processes and reporting where appropriate.
- Manage accounting for the tenant accounting year-end lease requirements.
- Work with property management to research and explain forecasts to actual variances.
- Prepare and update monthly and annual corporate and property operating cash flow forecasts.
- Oversee annual review and placement of property casualty insurance with outside consultants.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’ s degree in accounting or 10+ years of experience in commercial property management
- Strong managerial skills.
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles and the accounting requirements of commercial property management portfolios.
- Strong organization, coordination and planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines consistently.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Yardi experience required. MRI experience a plus.
