The Property Accountant is responsible for performing general accounting functions for multi-family properties that are part of the growing GVA portfolio.

Transactions

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review daily financial transactions processed at the property level for completeness, accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all applicable internal and external policies
  • Maintain orderly accounting records and vendor files Full cycle AP, AR, and GL accounting
  • Research and respond to vendor inquiries
  • Process monthly Resident Utility Billings (RUBS)
  • Post and prepare journal entries
  • Perform month-end close procedures
  • Review general ledger entries for coding accuracy as well as completeness
  • Complete monthly bank account and balance sheet account reconciliations

Compliance

  • Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training materials, memos, and verbal instructions
  • Assist the controller in assembling information in response to all audit requests and debt covenant compliance inquiries

Reporting

  • Assist the controller in preparing month-end and quarter-end reports
  • Assist in the preparation and loading of annual budgets and forecasts

Communication

  • Maintain open communication lines with property management and provide assistance/direction to ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions
  • Ability to speak effectively with property staff and vendors
  • Must have a team-oriented attitude
  • Assist with on boarding of new properties
  • Perform other duties/projects as assigned by the Controller or Operations

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance or minimum 5 years in multi-family property accounting and bookkeeping experience
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a staff accountant or property accountant role
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel and Word
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate accounting concepts to non-accountants
  • Able to perform in a deadline-oriented environment without compromising accuracy
  • Exceptional organizational, time management and work prioritization skills with the ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism and integrity
