Job Description

As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for deploying, configuring, and supporting a large-scale DWDM & OTN optical network across India, spanning terrestrial and regional metro areas, interconnecting data centers and Point of Presence (POP) sites. You will create and maintain Engineering Design Packages for both metro and long-haul DWDM rings/systems, ensuring that they meet customer needs and industry standards.

Your role will involve powering and testing the optical network shelves, validating designs, and performing network turn-ups and testing to ensure optimal performance. You'll also play a key role in network maintenance, repair, and upgrades, troubleshooting and resolving build issues independently.

You will be responsible for New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, which include demo execution, proof of concept, type approval tests, and field trials, ensuring successful definition to validation/acceptance processes for new products or solutions. This will involve creating and approving Methods of Procedures (MOPs) before implementation and training Customer Delivery teams on new products and features.

Additionally, you will work closely with field installation teams, providing technical expertise, and managing hardware deployments, migrations, upgrades, and major activation work. You'll also be responsible for creating system support documentation, test plans, and troubleshooting guides to ensure the efficient operation of the optical network.

Your hands-on experience in deploying optical networks, combined with in-depth knowledge of optical transport technologies, including DWDM, GMPLS, SDH, and MPLS-TP, will make you a key contributor to the success of the network. You’ll use tools like Power Meters, OTDR, and BERT to ensure performance standards are met and help troubleshoot any network issues.

How You Will Contribute And What You Will Learn

• Network Deployment & Configuration: Lead the deployment and configuration of a large-scale DWDM & OTN optical network, ensuring network efficiency, scalability, and reliability across multiple regions in India.
• Hands-on Testing & Troubleshooting: Perform optical network turn-ups, troubleshooting, and network repairs using advanced tools such as OTDR, Power Meters, and BERT to validate and optimize network performance.
• New Product Introduction (NPI): Manage NPI activities, including product demos, proof of concepts, and field trials, ensuring successful implementation and acceptance from customers.
• Engineering Design & Documentation: Create and maintain engineering design packages, test plans, MOPs, and other system support documentation to support network implementation and troubleshooting.
• Customer Training: Provide training and support to Customer Delivery teams, ensuring they are well-equipped with knowledge of new products and features.
• Project Management: Oversee hardware deployments, migrations, and upgrades, ensuring smooth transitions and effective network expansion.
• Network Maintenance & Upgrade: Perform ongoing maintenance and upgrade tasks for optical network systems, ensuring high availability and performance.
  
  

Expertise in Optical Transport: Use your deep expertise in optical transport networks, including technologies like DWDM, MPLS-TP, and GMPLS, to ensure that our network systems are efficient and future-ready.

Key Skills And Experience

• Education:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience:
• Extensive experience in deploying, configuring, and maintaining optical transport networks, with hands-on experience in DWDM, OTN, MPLS-TP, and Ethernet.
• In-depth knowledge of packet transport technologies such as PTN, GMPLS (Layer 0 and Layer 1), SDH, and segment routing.
• Experience in system integration, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of fiber optics transmission products.
• Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting tools such as OTDR, Power Meters, and BERT for testing fiber and verifying specifications.
• Proven experience with Nokia’s optical portfolio, including 1830PSS platforms and GMPLS architectures.
• Skills:
• Expertise in optical transport systems, including technologies like DWDM, RAMAN, EDFA, WSS, and Flexgrid.
• Strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve network build issues independently.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in close-knit teams and providing technical expertise.
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle hardware deployments, migrations, and upgrades.
• Knowledge of virtualized Linux environments (e.g., KVM, Docker) and ability to work with networking best practices.
