Alliance Technical Group Internship Program - Project Scientist Intern

Summer Program Duration: 12 weeks, 5/19/2025 - 8/8/2025

Organization Level: Stack Testing - Operations - Minneapolis

Reports to: Operations Manager

Location: Circle Pines, Minneapolis

Hours: Part-time or Full-time

Pay: $20 per hour

Internship Details

  • This is a 12-week Summer Internship program for undergrad sophomore, juniors, seniors, or grad students currently attending an accredited college or university.
  • Interns work within various facets of their department to get a good understanding of the services provided and to gain hands-on experience accompanied by various subject matter experts.
  • There are ample opportunities to attend information sessions and learn more about the company.
  • Interns are assigned mentors that provide guidance, development opportunities, projects, and valuable feedback.
  • Internships are on-site with no remote work opportunities and all interns must be within a commutable distance from the office. At this time, we do not provide housing or relocation assistance for the program.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Summary

In this role, you will be a vital part of field operations and serve a support role for field duties alongside a mentor and full-time Project Scientists. Additionally, interns support the office and shop areas and play a key role in maximizing efficiency of the field staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in equipment mobilizations, demobilizations, calibrations, and general shop duties to include, but not limited to cleaning & maintenance.
  • Calibration of sampling equipment following Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Cleaning and preparation of sampling equipment (pre/post field work).
  • Cleaning, restocking, and organizing standard equipment load-out on mobile laboratories.
  • Maintaining the supply room inventory.
  • Equipment and mobile lab cleaning.
  • Follow current standards, codes, and procedures regarding safe and effective use of equipment, maintenance programs, and other policies as trained to do so.
  • Assist with sample media processing & shipping.
  • Participate in field testing activities within AST’s stack, ambient, and CEMS business units.
  • Electrical & Mechanical repair of sampling equipment.
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

Work Environment

This job operates in both an office and field setting. Field work will require the use of personal protective equipment.

Travel

This role may involve travel and overnight stays. AST per diem and travel policies will apply.

Eligibility

Education Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree or certification in environmental, science, engineering, trade or related field from a technical, college or university program
  • Cumulative GPA: 2.8 or higher
  • Current status: Sophomore or above

Other Qualifications

  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Enjoy being outdoors, working safely in all weather conditions
  • Ability and desire to climb stairs and ladders and work at elevated heights (varies from 50 ft - 400 ft)
  • Ability and desire to be on your feet, lift equipment up to 75 pounds, climb ladders or stairs and work at elevated heights and use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity
  • Ability to distinguish between shades of color is critical for safety

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Experience related to environmental response/sample collection, mechanical, construction, or electrical work is helpful and preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete all documentation.
  • Ability to follow direction and perform within a team-based system.
  • Safety first attitude.
  • Professional behavior and appearance.
  • Ability to be organized and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow written or verbal instructions.
