Job Duties
Plan, direct, or coordinate, usually through subordinate supervisory personnel, activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems. Participate in the conceptual development of a construction project and oversee its organization, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation.
Participation and application of DPR’s environmental health and safety plan to constantly maintain injury-free environments including participating in all hand’s safety meetings. Review and execute bids on multiple and/or complex projects for concrete scope. Lead all aspects of the estimating and bid process, from review of plans and specifications, to soliciting and negotiating prices from contractors and suppliers. Understanding contracts, including between DPR and subcontractors as well as DPR and the owner. Develop a thorough proposal on all cost elements relating to concrete scope including both building concrete and site concrete. Perform constructability analysis of project documents and communicate design and constructability issues and propose alternative solutions to project team and other stakeholders in accordance with project contract using ACC Build platform. Lead review meetings related to Preconstruction phase. Prepare comparison analysis to previous estimates and develop clear and concise messages to explain variances. Manage distribution of current design documents for trade partner budgeting and bidding; ensure account for sufficient trade partner input. Review design documents for completion; assemble comments and requests for additional information needed to provide complete estimates. Visit project sites to evaluate existing conditions, identify and capture scope not included in design documents. Perform quantity take-off of all concrete related scope. Provide pricing for value engineering, alternates, options, and special studies. Utilize Building Information Models (BIM) for quantity take-off and visualization to support complete estimate preparation. Prepare subcontractors bid proposal forms and bid recording sheets for assigned concrete scope to evaluate subcontractors’ input for scope inclusion and identify scope gaps and overlaps. Lead coordination of operational input during estimating and bidding process; ensure estimate incorporates detailed General Conditions/Requirement (GC/GRs) study and site logistics. Develop, lead, or support assembly of estimate, bid documents required by and submitted to GC, coordinate requirements with contract agreement. Participate in project hand-off to Operations to ensure proper transfer of knowledge from Preconstruction to Operations. Develop working relationships with local material suppliers and equipment vendors to solicit accurate and current pricing of concrete, reinforcement, concrete pumps, formwork, and miscellaneous material pricing.
Must be available to work on projects at various, unanticipated sites within commuting distance to DPR’s Reston, Virginia office.
Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field and 5 years of experience in the job offered or in a project engineer-related occupation. Special Requirements
Position requires at least 2 years of experience in each of the following skills:
Carry out quality inspections to ensure the construction is as per contract drawings and specifications for commercial and residential construction. Use Microsoft 365 apps such as MS Excel to maintain concrete scope related logs, including procurement log, ready mix concrete log, rebar log, formwork log, and track labor productivity. Use MS Word to draft scope related narratives, and Outlook for communications related to construction projects. Complete concrete estimation using knowledge of production rates and unit prices. Analyze cost reports and labor productivity reports for ongoing and previous projects. Navigate project models to identify clashes and perform schedule of value takeoffs for concrete scope using core functions of Autodesk Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) software such as Navisworks, Revit and AutoCAD. Develop concrete scope related detailed schedule on scheduling software such as Microsoft project and P6 for concrete estimating. Navigate construction documents such as specs, submittals, contract documents and RFI’s using various project document handling platforms. Perform construction operations safely for all construction activities according to construction safety standards. Use Microsoft 365 apps such as MS Excel to maintain concrete scope related logs, including procurement log, ready mix concrete log, rebar log, formwork log, and track labor productivity. Use MS Word to draft scope related narratives, and Outlook for communications related to construction projects. Complete concrete estimation using knowledge of production rates and unit prices. Analyze cost reports and labor productivity reports for ongoing and previous projects. Develop concrete scope related detailed schedule on scheduling software such as Microsoft project and P6 for concrete estimating.
