Position Summary
In accordance with the Agreement between the Organization of School Administrators and supervisors and the Detroit Public School Community District the following vacancy is announced:
The Communications Event Coordinator will support the department in the execution of communication event strategies and tactics to support the advancement of internal and external involvement and engagement to support student learning and two-way communication between the district and its key stakeholder groups. The Communications Event Coordinator will be responsible for supporting systems and processes to execute high level event program management that yield optimal staff and community engagement. The coordinator will also support the mass notification system, board recognitions,electronic flyer distribution and other administrative duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Should posses a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or a directly related discipline at the time of application.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills: the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of publics including vendors, paired with the ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
- Flexible, optimistic approach; commitment to overcoming challenges; comfortable with change and ambiguity.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Creative and outside-of-the-box thinking.
- Fluency in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and basic Web browser searches.
- Ability to research information needed to complete a project and utilize it accordingly.
Essential Functions
- Support coordination of press conferences, district and school level events.
- Attend planning meetings with various departments and community organizations for upcoming events and projects.
- Support the community engagement team in maximizing attendance at applicable district public events.
- Manage the internal electronic flyer service Peachjar to keep the public updated on events and opportunities/resources.
- Respond and manage the department’s customer service requests from internal and external audiences.
- Write feature stories and vignettes related to district events.
- Track community events that may correlate to district strategies.
- Vendor management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
