Summary

Our recruiting team is working with a well-established, growth-focused mechanical contractor that’s looking to add a Mechanical / HVAC Estimator to their Fort Wayne, Indiana office. If you have a background in estimating for piping, HVAC, mechanical, or plumbing systems—and enjoy contributing to complex industrial and commercial projects—this could be a fantastic next step in your career.

As a key member of the estimating team, you'll help shape competitive bids and project budgets that bring technically advanced designs to life. This role offers long-term stability, hands-on involvement with unique projects, and the opportunity to work with a close-knit team of professionals who take pride in what they build.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Reviewing plans, specs, and site conditions to develop accurate project estimates using industry-standard software
  • Preparing and submitting bids for HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and industrial refrigeration systems
  • Building early-stage conceptual cost estimates for design/build opportunities
  • Completing detailed estimate recap spreadsheets for internal team review
  • Reaching out to suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to gather accurate pricing
  • Collaborating with project managers and clients to ensure all scopes are aligned
  • Performing take-offs for piping systems and calculating costs for labor, materials, and equipment
  • Participating in pre-bid meetings and on-site walkthroughs
  • Staying current on industry pricing, standards, and best practices

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 2 years of experience estimating mechanical or piping system projects
  • Familiarity with HVAC, hydronic piping, mechanical, and plumbing systems
  • Experience with both negotiated and competitive bid formats
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Highly organized, deadline-driven, and comfortable managing multiple estimates at once
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills—you'll work closely with internal teams and external partners
  • Able to work independently and manage priorities with minimal supervision
