Overview
Project Engineering Manager leads and coordinates engineering and design activities across Customer and New Product Introduction (NPI) projects. This role supports both our Anaheim facility and the global Systems R&D organization, operating in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
As a critical link between engineering disciplines - Mechanical, Electrical, Process, and Automation - the Project Engineering Manager owns the design process, manages schedules, and ensures timely delivery of high-quality project outputs. This position interfaces directly with customers' technical teams to gather requirements, assess feasibility, propose solutions, and translate customer needs into actionable tasks for the internal engineering team.
You will work in close partnership with Commercial Project Managers and cross-functional Operations, Commercial and Quality teams to ensure alignment and effective handover of engineering deliverables. The role also includes support for product testing and validation activities.
Success in this position requires strong technical acumen, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
* Lead and oversee all engineering activities throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial RFQ / Quoting phase and receipt of customer purchase orders to final site acceptance (SAT/IOQ).
* Develop project-specific design and engineering schedules, define scope, and create comprehensive project engineering plans and documentation.
* Organize and lead internal and external technical meetings.
* Participate in customer discussions and support Commercial Project Managers on all technical and design-related matters.
* Provide technical guidance to the engineering team, ensuring manufacturability, serviceability, and adherence to best practices.
* Review, approve, and maintain engineering documentation and reports.
* Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and technical change requests within the project scope.
* Assess feasibility of project requirements by analyzing available technologies, resources, and market trends.
* Contribute to the development and optimization of internal engineering and project management processes.
* Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Product Management, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to align technical solutions with customer requirements and ensure smooth project execution.
* Monitor and drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and task efficiency.
* Build strong relationships with clients and key internal stakeholders.
* Promote knowledge sharing, mentoring, and team development initiatives.
* Stay up to date on industry trends, innovations, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
* Minimum 5 years of experience in product development, engineering or technical project management in the bioprocessing equipment industry.
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering is required; Master's degree preferred.
* Strong understanding of Design Controls and Stage-Gate development processes.
* Familiarity with single-use technologies and sterilization methods is highly desirable.
* Demonstrated leadership, integrity, and accountability.
* Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Proficiency in CAD/PDM systems and best practices for mechanical and electrical design.
* Knowledge of electrical systems, low-voltage control gear, and relevant engineering tools.
* Knowledge of industrial automation systems is desirable.
* Experience establishing engineering workflows across multiple locations.
* Proven ability to manage a diverse portfolio of projects with varying scope and complexity.

The estimated salary range for this role, based in the United States of America is $150,000-175,000. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to an individual's qualifications, location, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, employees are eligible to participate in one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
