We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented project engineer to join our team at The Grasso Companies, a leader in heavy civil construction. The Project Engineer will support the project team throughout the entire lifecycle of civil construction projects, including planning, design, and execution. This role requires collaboration with multiple stakeholders to ensure project goals are achieved on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Project Manager and Senior Project Manager in the overall planning and execution of heavy civil construction projects, such as roadways, utilities, earthwork, and other infrastructure projects.
Review and understand project plans, specifications, and contract documents to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Coordinate with the design team, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure smooth project execution.
Assist with cost estimates, budgeting, and cost tracking for the duration of the project.
Prepare and maintain project schedules, tracking progress against deadlines and identifying any issues that may impact project timelines.
Conduct regular site visits to ensure the quality and safety of construction work, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
Coordinate procurement of materials, tools, and equipment, and monitor the delivery to ensure the timely availability of resources.
Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, change orders, and submittals.
Review and approve shop drawings, material submittals, and other technical documents from subcontractors and suppliers.
Ensure all safety standards and regulatory requirements are met on-site and promote a safe working environment.
Help resolve technical issues that may arise during construction and assist in troubleshooting design or construction challenges.
Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and team members, providing regular project updates.
Monitor subcontractor and vendor performance, ensuring they are adhering to project specifications, schedules, and safety protocols.
Assist with preparing and submitting progress reports to senior management and clients.
Participate in project meetings, providing updates on the status of project milestones, deliverables, and any potential risks.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in civil engineering or heavy civil construction (such as roads, utilities, or earthwork).
Knowledge of construction processes, materials, and methods, especially in heavy civil construction.
Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, or Primavera) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Ability to work with Bluebeam Revu
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
Strong understanding of budgeting, cost tracking, and financial management in construction projects.
Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with construction safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
