Position Overview:

Our client, a top-ranked environmental and infrastructure engineering firm, is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to oversee design and implementation of complex landfill, waste management, and environmental systems throughout California. Based in Sacramento, this role blends technical leadership with project and team management in a collaborative, growth-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and schedule all necessary engineering resources required to accomplish project activities effectively and on schedule.
  • Coordinate technical development, project scheduling, and resolution of design and testing issues.
  • Oversee design, development, and testing of landfill systems, environmental infrastructure, gas collection systems, and related civil engineering components.
  • Apply principles of civil, mechanical, chemical, and/or industrial engineering to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Monitor and enhance department work processes, procedures, and expenses. Establish programs to drive performance in line with organizational goals.
  • Ensure adherence to company quality control standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide technical and administrative direction to engineering staff, serving as both a hands-on contributor and project lead.
  • Manage departmental projects and provide regular budgetary and performance analysis compared to year-to-date and prior year data.
  • Submit reasonable budget information and participate in financial planning aligned with departmental goals.
  • Oversee personnel needs, including selecting, coaching, training, and performance evaluation. Participate in decisions related to compensation, promotion, and termination.
  • Ensure project milestones, deliverables, and quality standards are met on time and within scope.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering (Master’s a plus)
  • 5–10+ years of experience with landfill design, solid waste engineering, or related environmental infrastructure projects
  • Strong background in project and team leadership
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with regulatory compliance and permitting processes in California
  • Excellent communication, budgeting, and organizational skills
