Summary

If you are based in the Netherlands, and keen to work internationally on technically challenging projects that really make a difference to marine and climate science, then MARIS has the ideal job for you!

We are looking for preferably a Master of Science in a technical study, who is looking for the next career step after working for several years (e.g. 3-7 years). You ideally have a solid technical basis, excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, developing management skills, and a broad scientific interest.

The health of the oceans and seas, together with the changes in the climate, offer challenges for finding solutions to which MARIS with its (inter)national partners is contributing by developing and operating marine environmental data management infrastructures and related services. These infrastructures and services support scientists, but also aim to inform citizens and policy makers about the status and changes of the sea and climate. With your knowledge and effort you will strengthen our team for these interesting challenges, while at the same time you will develop yourself into an all-round project engineer, and develop your project management skills. Our work domain is international: Various projects are being undertaken with (co)financing from the EU, matching the Marine Knowledge, Blue Economy and Green Deal agendas.

About MARIS

Mariene Informatie Service (MARIS) has developed itself since its foundation in 1996 into an all-round expert in (marine) data management solutions. MARIS is operating at the interface between data acquisition and data use, working together with the leading marine research institutes in Europe. We provide the IT expertise required to deliver the web applications, web services, and consultancy to make marine data and data products available to users in a FAIR way. In addition to the marine domain, we are also active in the development of climate services, citizen science initiatives, recreational applications and even applications for the energy sector.

The MARIS team currently consists of 11 employees with a good balance between engineers and IT developers. The advertised position aims to strengthen our consultancy and project coordination staff. At MARIS we work in a relaxed and professional atmosphere, with lots of room for technical innovation, and great opportunities for personal development, among others in European research projects.

There will be plenty of scope to contribute your own initiative, expand your knowledge, and to work independently. A good level of English is important and we strive for a long-term contract in which you are based in the Netherlands.
