Summary
The Project Engineer assists Project Managers in ensuring that work installed on the project complies with all plans and specifications.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Assures compliance by becoming thoroughly familiar with the assigned project plans and specifications; reviews shop drawings and submittals.
* Reviews plans for value analysis and constructability, ensuring appropriate materials are used; communicates inconsistencies to the architect.
* Recommends labor- and cost-saving methods that will benefit Structure Tone Southwest and/or the owner during construction.
* Attends and documents project meetings, including weekly Owner/Architect and subcontractor coordination meetings; distributes meeting minutes.
* Publishes weekly progress reports and tracks the receipt, review, and distribution of construction information.
* Assists in updating project schedules as needed.
* Supports bidding processes and helps develop scopes of work for trade contractors.
* Collaborates with the Superintendent to prepare the project schedule, including dates for shop drawing submittals and milestone tracking.
* Follows up on review and approval of shop drawings, samples, material lists, etc.
* Maintains accurate logs for shop drawings, RFIs, change requests, and proposal requests.
* Advises on proper procedures for concrete pours and inspects structural reinforcing.
* Coordinates slump and compaction testing to ensure compliance with specifications.
* Reviews field procedures and installation of structural elements for quality and compliance.
* Conducts work sampling and observes field activities to recommend improvements in productivity.
* Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures; reports unsafe conditions to supervision or Safety personnel.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field-or equivalent education and experience.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate clearly with individuals and groups.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Flexible and adaptable; willing to adjust behavior and plans to meet goals.
* Collaborative and team-oriented; supports coworkers and contributes to shared success.
* Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints.
* Quick learner with a desire to gain new job-related knowledge.
* Understanding and application of OSHA and company-specific safety standards.
* High ethical standards and integrity; adheres to company policies and professional conduct.
* Effective problem solver; able to work through complex and variable site conditions.
* One year of prior field experience preferred.
* Working knowledge of scheduling software preferred.
