FAS is seeking a Project Engineer with Functional Machine Safety experience. Machine safety is a high priority for manufacturers and FAS provides solutions to meet the increasing need for functional machine safety. We are looking for a capable, creative, and initiative-taking professional who wants to grow expertise in safety implementations as a key member of the FAS safety team.


Education and Experience:

  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar discipline
  • 4+ years of experience designing, programming, and commissioning PLC and VFD systems
  • 2+ years of implementing functional machine safety systems


The Functional Machine Safety Engineer position involves:

  • Collaborating with customers to perform assessments of new or existing equipment hazards
  • Gain a clear understanding of operations and maintenance interactions with the equipment
  • Using knowledge gained about equipment hazards and equipment interactions to complete risk assessments (risk assessments range from single machines to entire facilities)
  • Creating recommendations for solutions that will mitigate risks while minimizing obstacles for operations and maintenance tasks
  • Becoming a subject matter expert in safety systems and leading a project team(s) to create the required documentation, work packages, project schedules, and installations


Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics


Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • TUV certification in Functional Machine Safety
  • Experience with Ethernet/IP and other industrial networks
  • Maintenance experience with respect to controls, pneumatics, hydraulics, and safety systems


Travel is estimated at 10 - 20%.
