Job Summary

A Project Engineer is needed for a global, research-driven pharmaceutical company focused on improving human and animal health in the Fremont, CA area. The role involves managing and continuously improving Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs to ensure regulatory compliance, protect employee health and the environment, and promote a culture of safety and sustainability across operational sites.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance programs per local, state, federal, and company regulations.
  • Support internal teams with EHS needs and promote a strong culture of safety and sustainability.
  • Contribute to the discovery, development, and delivery of company products.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives for Health and Safety and Environmental Programs.
  • Potentially serve as the Biological Safety Officer and manage Emergency Response teams.
  • Promote environmental stewardship across business units through outreach, messaging, and leadership.
  • Develop, implement, and manage EHS Management Systems for the site.
  • Partner with business units to resolve EHS concerns and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Respond to incidents and participate in emergency response and evacuation teams.
  • Lead and participate in audits and inspections.
  • Perform miscellaneous EHS-related duties as needed.

  • Environmental Remediation
  • Community Right-to-Know Reporting

Required Skills And Experience

  • 8-10 years of EHS experience at operational sites
  • 5+ years with relevant technical subject matter
  • 4-6 years of project leadership experience
  • strong independent working and team collaboration abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Broad knowledge of EHS regulations and management systems
  • Understanding of crisis management and business interruption risks
  • Ability to occasionally work in physically demanding environments (lift up to 35 lbs, off-shift work)

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or Biopharmaceuticals (required)
  • Master's degree (preferred)
  • Preferred certifications:
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
    • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
    • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
