What you’ll do As Lead Project Engineer BESS, you will contribute to large Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across various stages of development and realization in the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium. Responsible for the overall engineering process, your role spans from concept selection to detailed design, including construction and commissioning support. Acting as the technology holder within projects, you ensure compliance with all requirements, including safety and quality. Managing both internal and external engineers and specialists, you safeguard technical interfaces and drive collaboration. Company standards guide your approach, aligning efforts with the asset organization, clients, and partners. In addition to overseeing technical execution, you play a key role in selecting technologies and suppliers, ensuring they deliver on agreed commitments. Through these efforts, you contribute to building a more sustainable future. Is this about you? You want to become the technical lead in the project team and work together with all team members to deliver the projects. In doing so, you are proactive in helping to accelerate the energy transition, while you make sure that quality and safety requirements are met. You are result driven and are able to represent Eneco with clients, suppliers and stakeholders. You have a technical focus, but understand the business challenges of an investor in renewable assets. In addition, you hold the following qualities: Master degree or equivalent level of education in electrical engineering or equivalent discipline; 5 years of work experience as a discipline or project engineer in complex engineering projects, for instance as electrical engineer or technical consultant in industry or power; Experience with working in a project environment and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams is an advantage; Knowledge of BESS technologies is an advantage; Knowledge of HV/MV electrical systems is an advantage; Knowledge of Grid compliance requirements is an advantage; Basic knowledge of SCADA/Automation systems; Self-starting and skilled in planning and organization; Driven to improve quality and standards within Eneco; Good social and communication skills both verbally and in writing English and Dutch; French, German nice to have. You’ll be responsible for Within the projects we develop, you are a key player in the project team and responsible for the overall design and scope definition. For this you will work together with internal and external stakeholders and make sure the design meets all requirements. As Lead Project engineer BESS, you will: Define technical concepts and make technology selections; Involvement in the tender process, from technical input to tender evaluation; Manage the engineering process from conceptual design towards detailed engineering, being responsible for coordinating all disciplines. For this you will work together and manage internal and external specialists and engineers; Deliver the Basis of Design and gathering all relevant design requirements; Manage the delivery and reviewing of all engineering documents required; Support in creating the cost estimates and technical inputs for the business case and permit applications; Prepare specifications for assignments for technical consultants, engineering firms, contractors and suppliers and evaluate proposals; Coordinate the quality assurance and quality control throughout the engineering and construction phases. At Eneco we work hybrid. You will have a flexible workspace at Eneco World office in Rotterdam and off course, you can work from home.
