Summary

Position Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining detailed project schedules for all fabrication shop operations. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with shop capabilities, while optimizing resource allocation and minimizing production delays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain project schedules based on engineering drawings, production capacity, material availability, and client deadlines.
  • Break down projects into manageable tasks, establish timelines, and set milestone targets.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and production teams to plan fabrication sequences.
  • Monitor project progress and update schedules to reflect changes, delays, or accelerations.
  • Prepare progress reports and communicate project status to internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Forecast resource needs, including labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Identify risks and recommend solutions to avoid bottlenecks or missed deadlines.
  • Ensure that all fabrication activities comply with safety, quality, and specification standards.
  • Assist with project documentation, tracking change orders, and maintaining job files.
  • Participate in daily/weekly production meetings and provide planning input.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in project planning/scheduling, preferably in a fabrication, manufacturing, or construction environment.
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, materials, and workflows.
  • Proficiency in scheduling software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, or similar), and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication specs.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience with ERP systems is a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field preferred.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles or production optimization.
  • Welding, machining, or structural steel knowledge a plus.
  • Hands-on experience working with project timelines in fast-paced fabrication environments.
