JOB SUMMARY:

As a Project Engineer at FAULHABER you will play a vital role in the design, development, and execution of motion control projects, supporting both customer-specific solutions and internal product innovations. This position requires a strong blend of technical expertise and project management skills, working closely with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and other internal teams to ensure projects are completed accurately, on time, and within scope.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge motion control solutions that power high-tech industries, including medical, aerospace, and robotics. You will engage in cradle-to-grave product development, influencing the entire product life cycle from concept through production. Additionally, you will collaborate with global engineering teams in Germany and Switzerland, ensuring alignment in technical specifications, best practices, and manufacturing processes.

Project Engineer


Your responsibilities:


1. Design & Development

  • Cre­ate, test, and va­li­date new pro­duct de­signs in vir­tual space using si­mu­la­tion and a­nal­y­sis be­fore phy­si­cal pro­to­typ­ing.
  • Im­prove ex­ist­ing pro­ducts using FEA, mo­tion a­nal­y­sis, and si­mu­la­tion tech­niques to op­ti­mize per­for­mance and re­li­a­bil­ity.
  • De­vel­op man­u­fac­tur­ing-friend­ly de­signs that bal­ance cost, per­for­mance, and ease of pro­duc­tion.
  • De­sign and im­prove pro­duc­tion and test tool­ing to en­hance man­u­fac­tur­ing ef­fi­cien­cy and pro­duct qual­ity.
  • Spec­i­fy sys­tem com­po­nents and ma­te­ri­als to en­sure con­for­mance with per­for­mance and reg­u­la­to­ry re­quire­ments.

2. Engineering Analysis & Specification Development

  • Per­form eng­i­neer­ing cal­cu­la­tions for struc­tur­al in­teg­ri­ty, power trans­mis­sion, and mo­tion con­trol per­for­mance.
  • Re­search and eval­u­ate cus­tom­er de­sign pro­pos­als, spec­i­fi­ca­tions, and fea­si­bil­i­ty stud­ies to en­sure cost-ef­fec­tive and main­tain­a­ble so­lu­tions.
  • Con­duct fail­ure a­nal­y­sis and root cause in­ves­ti­ga­tions to im­prove pro­duct re­li­a­bil­ity and pre­vent fu­ture is­sues.
  • De­vel­op and test al­ter­nate de­sign con­cepts and pro­cess­ing meth­ods to as­sess fea­si­bil­i­ty and per­for­mance im­prove­ments.
  • En­sure all de­signs a­lign with ISO 13485, ASME, and in­dus­try stan­dards when ap­pli­ca­ble.

3. Project & Process Management

  • Serve as Project Manager for customer-driven designs and internal continuous improvement projects.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and deliverables using project management tools such as Microsoft Project.
  • Delegate tasks to team members and ensure timelines, cost targets, and functionality requirements are met.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with internal sales teams and customers regarding project progress.
  • Ensure all design documentation and engineering files comply with the company’s Design Management Procedures.

4. Cross-Functional Colla­boration & Support

  • Work closely with manu­facturing, quality, and operations teams to trouble­shoot and optimize designs.
  • Engage with global engineering teams in Germany and Switzerland to transfer knowledge, align specifications, and leverage best practices.
  • Support custom appli­cation development by modifying stan­dard designs to meet unique project requirements.
  • Provide engineering support for pro­duction issues, field failures, and continuous improve­ment efforts.

5. Strategic Execution & Innovation

  • Assist in the execution of strategic projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and customer needs.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, motion control techno­logies, and competitive bench­marking.
  • Contribute to the advance­ment of motion control solutions, including DC motors, electro­mechanical actuators, and power trans­mission systems.



QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:


Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred) for designing parts and assemblies.
  • Strong knowledge of FEA, motion control analysis, and simulation techniques.
  • Experience with mechanical power transmission systems, electromechanical actuators, and fractional horsepower DC motors is a plus.
  • Familiarity with tribology, Design for Six Sigma, and ISO 13485 requirements is beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of programming languages (Python, MATLAB, Minitab, Ansys, etc.) for data analysis and automation is a plus.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Experience designing test control apparatus and automated testing procedures.

Project Management & Organizational Skills

  • Strong organizational skills with the abi­lity to manage multiple projects simul­taneously.
  • Proficiency in project planning, resource allo­cation, and time­line management.
  • Experience with engi­neering change requests (ECR) and managing design modi­fications.
  • Capable of identifying poten­tial pro­ject risks and proactively addressing challenges.

Soft Skills & Team Collaboration

  • Excellent verbal and written communi­cation skills for both internal teams and external customers.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and abi­lities to adapt to new challenges.
  • Keen attention to detail while main­taining a high-level project overview.
  • Ability to work indepen­dently as well as in a cross-functional, collaborative team environ­ment.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to balance cost, per­formance, and manu­facturing feasi­bility in designs.
  • Decisiveness and ability to make infor­med engineering decisions that align with project and company objectives.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engi­neering with ideally 4 to 6 years of research / design experience, OR Master’s Degree in mechanical engineering with optional experience.
  • Some customer service experience in the industrial / technical market is desired.

Must be permanently authorized to work in the U.S.

This position requires the hire to live locally to the Tampa Bay, FL region. FAULHABER MICROMO is not offering relocation for this role.
