Position Overview
Powers & Sons Construction is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our Chicago team. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of construction management experience and play a critical role in supporting project management teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to our high-quality standards. Key Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers in the day-to-day management of commercial construction projects
- Prepare, process, and maintain project documentation including RFIs, submittals, transmittals, and change orders using industry-standard construction management software
- Review and understand contract documents, drawings, and specifications
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors to resolve technical issues
- Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules and ensuring adherence to timelines
- Monitor project costs and participate in budget tracking activities
- Attend and document project meetings, site walks, and inspections
- Verify field dimensions and conduct quality control inspections
- Coordinate material deliveries and ensure proper storage on site
- Support the closeout process including the compilation of operation and maintenance manuals
- Implement company safety policies and procedures on job sites
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years of construction management experience, preferably in commercial construction
- Proficiency in construction management software (Procore, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards
- Experience with scheduling software (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project)
- Understanding of contract documents, drawing interpretation, and technical specifications
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Preferred Skills
- OSHA 30-Hour certification
- Experience with LEED or sustainable construction practices
- Knowledge of Chicago building codes and regulations
- Experience in diverse project types (commercial, institutional, industrial)
- Familiarity with BIM and digital construction technologies
- Previous experience with projects exceeding $10M in value

Physical Requirements
- Ability to work from construction sites regularly (approximately 60% field, 40% job site trailer)
- Capability to navigate construction sites with various terrain and weather conditions
- Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds
- Must be able to climb ladders, stairs, and navigate partially completed structures
