Position Overview

Powers & Sons Construction is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our Chicago team. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of construction management experience and play a critical role in supporting project management teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to our high-quality standards. Key Responsibilities

• Support Project Managers in the day-to-day management of commercial construction projects
• Prepare, process, and maintain project documentation including RFIs, submittals, transmittals, and change orders using industry-standard construction management software
• Review and understand contract documents, drawings, and specifications
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors to resolve technical issues
• Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules and ensuring adherence to timelines
• Monitor project costs and participate in budget tracking activities
• Attend and document project meetings, site walks, and inspections
• Verify field dimensions and conduct quality control inspections
• Coordinate material deliveries and ensure proper storage on site
• Support the closeout process including the compilation of operation and maintenance manuals
• Implement company safety policies and procedures on job sites

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field
• 3+ years of construction management experience, preferably in commercial construction
• Proficiency in construction management software (Procore, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards
• Experience with scheduling software (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project)
• Understanding of contract documents, drawing interpretation, and technical specifications
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Preferred Skills

• OSHA 30-Hour certification
• Experience with LEED or sustainable construction practices
• Knowledge of Chicago building codes and regulations
• Experience in diverse project types (commercial, institutional, industrial)
• Familiarity with BIM and digital construction technologies
• Previous experience with projects exceeding $10M in value

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work from construction sites regularly (approximately 60% field, 40% job site trailer)
• Capability to navigate construction sites with various terrain and weather conditions
• Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds
• Must be able to climb ladders, stairs, and navigate partially completed structures
