Job Title: Development Manager – BESS Permitting (New York)

Client overview:

Global Independent Power Producer. As part of their continued growth, they are seeking a Development Manager with deep permitting experience specific to BESS projects in New York State.

Responsibilities:

• Lead permitting efforts for BESS projects in New York, navigating state, local, and municipal approval processes.
• Coordinate with environmental consultants, legal advisors, and permitting agencies to ensure timely execution of all regulatory requirements.
• Partner with internal teams (interconnection, engineering, land, and legal) to align development strategy with permitting timelines and site constraints.
• Track evolving regulatory and market conditions within New York State that may impact project development.
• Support community engagement efforts to build local support for projects and mitigate permitting risk.
• Manage project schedules, milestones, and documentation related to permitting and entitlements.

Qualifications & Experience:

• 5+ years of renewable energy development experience, with a strong focus on permitting battery storage or distributed energy projects.
• Demonstrated success permitting BESS or solar+storage projects in New York State.
• Deep understanding of New York regulatory frameworks, land use requirements, and local permitting challenges.
• Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and influence internal and external stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Energy, or a related field.
