About the Role

Blackfield Associates are currently supporting a major pharmaceutical client in Frankfurt with the search for an experienced Automation Project Engineer for their Global Automation Projects Team. This long-term contract role focuses on delivering the automation scopes of major capital investment projects, particularly those on-site in Frankfurt. In this role, you will drive innovation by integrating and advancing cutting-edge manufacturing solutions, influencing global strategy and supporting global project teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement automation strategies aligned with project and site objectives
• Deliver and oversee CAPEX project plans, schedules, and automation scope deliverables
• Lead the design and development of manufacturing control systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA)
• Drive system integration with digital applications, ensuring real-time data connectivity
• Manage supplier selection, ensuring design delivery across multiple global sites
• Assure compliance with GMP/GAMP and regulatory expectations throughout project lifecycle
• Actively identify risks and support mitigation strategies to maintain project timelines

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven background within large-scale pharmaceutical OR biotech manufacturing projects
• Extensive experience in automation systems: PCS7, S7, WinCC, TIA Portal
• Experience with batch S88 standards and system integration architectures
• Familiarity with CQV, P&IDs and other engineering collaborations
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Fluent in English; additional language skills in German is a plus
