Summary

Westside Recreation Centre is a world-class facility based on a lifestyle and wellness concept. Since 2000, we have been providing families with a fun, healthy and affordable environment with world class activities, including a hockey and skating facility, fitness centre, gymnasium and an aquatic park. We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Aquatic Programmer to join our team! The Assistant Aquatic Programmer is a motivated and enthusiastic member of the Westside Aquatic team and is responsible for promoting a positive experience for all visitors of the Aquatic Park. This is achieved by maintaining high safety standards, quality instruction & monitoring and creating a positive culture. Responsibilities: Westside Assistant Aquatic Programmer is a full-time hands on supervisory position is responsible for assisting the Aquatic Programmer with all aspects of development and operations of the aquatic programs. Human Resources: Assist in the recruitment, hiring and training of qualified staff Supervise aquatic staff, managing conduct and performance Assist to create staff schedules, monitor shift changes and ensure adequate coverage Assist to develop and facilitate training and orientation sessions Actively promote team building and mentoring of staff and volunteers Administration: Assist to develop and implement aquatic program schedules Ensure organization of accurate and up to date class lists and attendance sheets for instructors Assist to develop and monitor program resources for instructors Ensure program data entry into required systems (Xplor, Swimgen etc.) for registrations, grades, report cards etc. Assist in ensuring program inventory and supplies are ordered and maintained Deliver leadership courses and staff training Maintain current WHMIS, and updated on AB Pool & OH&S regulations Assist in maintaining safety and cleanliness of all aquatic areas Input and participate in required organizational health & safety inspections, audits and hazard assessments (internal or external) Ensure safety and awareness for all staff while facilitating programs This position promotes a positive experience for all Aquatic Park visitors and staff The position is capable of working with all levels of the Aquatic team Customer Service and Communications: Communicate effectively with the public and staff Provide customer service training for all new staff Implement standards of excellence Public Relations/Marketing: Participate in analyzing and assessing customer needs and trends Participate in promotional and advertising plans Risk Management Perform First Aid and emergency procedures as required Participate in the development and implementation of Westside Aquatic policies and procedures Ensure cleanliness and safety of all aquatic areas, complete and document all repairs and maintenance as required Deliver leadership courses and staff training Participate in required OH&S inspections, audits and hazard assessments (internal and external) Ensure safety awareness and in compliance with all health and safety standards Skills Required Ability to work as a team member and independently Ability to work with multiple age groups Strong customer service skills Strong communication and problem-solving skills Effective and proven organizational skills Experienced program development skills Risk management awareness Confident computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, Xplor system, WhenToWork, etc.) Physical/Psychological Demands Ability to work in a fast-paced, warm, noisy, and demanding environment. Ability to complete sessional aquatic skills aligned with Lifesaving Society physical standards. Ability to work with vulnerable populations and respect customer/facility confidentiality. Ability to lift 20-25lbs and work in a daily routine of sitting, standing, walking, swimming, bending, crouching, and kneeling. Extended periods of time in the pool and on pool deck. Exposure to chemical used in the pool. Exposure to cleaning supplies. Ability to complete administration work ergonomically. Qualifications: 2 (two) years of applicable aquatic experience, including 1 year in a full-time senior level position Current Lifesaving Society Lifesaving & Swim for Life Instructor Certification Experience in planning and teaching the Lifesaving Society Programs and Water Fitness Current National Lifeguard Award Current Alberta Approved First Aid training agency - CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid Lifesaving Aquatic Supervisor Training, SEE Auditor, Lifesaving Trainer, Water Fitness Instructor certifications would be an asset Employment Term: Full-time, salary position - 37.5 hours per week Variable hours/shift during the day, evenings and weekends Submission of a Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Search Disclaimer The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
