The Role: Iiyika’kimaat Program Facilitator The word Iiyika’kimaat, which means “to try hard” in Blackfoot, was gifted to the agency after consultation with elders. The Iiyika’kimaat program provides Indigenous youth, aged 12-21 years, an opportunity to reach their full potential through culturally relevant and leadership-specific components and activities. Key Tasks & Responsibilities Work alongside the other Indigenous Initiatives staff to plan and implement creative programming. Ensure for the safety and well-being of all children and youth in the program, including group and/or individual behavior management and support. Plan and implement age-appropriate activities based on assigned core program area with a focus on the Circle of Courage framework, self-esteem, leadership, identity, and social skills. Ensure programs reflect cultural diversity in the community and include cultural awareness components. Work with Trellis Society’s Indigenous Initiatives team to provide appropriate cultural experiences and referral supports to Indigenous youth and their families. Train, support, supervise, and evaluate the work of the volunteers and practicum students assigned to the program. Maintain specific program and member statistics and ensure client records are regularly maintained, as well as perform other administrative duties as required including monthly reporting of program statistics, program costs, and qualitative content. Ensure all licensing and safety standards are met as per Government and CAC requirements. Ensure cleanliness of facility and van, and proper care of equipment and supplies. Assist with recruitment and marketing of programs in the community, schools, on social media, and at events. Support Trellis Society initiatives and events. Other duties as required. Knowledge & Skills Expectations A degree or diploma in Human Services field (Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Justice Studies, etc.). Equivalencies will be considered. Strong understanding of Indigenous cultural protocols and ways of knowing. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and ability to learn database systems. Concise and clear communication (verbal and written) and problem-solving skills. Current Standard First Aid and Level C CPR certification (a requirement prior to commencement) Valid driver's license. current Driver's Abstract, and reliable vehicle with 2-million-dollar liability insurance. Ability to provide a Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Child Intervention Record Check. Experience or in-depth understanding of Harm reduction and Trauma Informed Practice is considered an asset. Reporting Relationship This position reports directly to the Program Manager of Iiyika’kimaat.
