Position Focus
The position is part of the Joint Data Analytics Team and provides programming, reporting and data support for researchers and research initiatives. The analyst is responsible for developing queries, reports, and application programming. The position requires a high degree of technical and analytical skills as well as strong communication and collaboration skills to develop and deliver accurate results. They must be able to review data project requirements and be able to develop the programming to extract data from the medical record data warehouse or to implement system functions. The analyst will be responsible for adhering to data compliance policies and communicating with researchers. Additionally, the analyst will be required to document projects and track project status in department systems.
Principal Responsibilities
Develops queries, reports, data extracts and programming based on data warehouse and Epic system using a variety of tools and applications
Communicates with researchers to understand their data requirements. Develops extract specifications and determine the best options for providing resulting data.
Attends team meetings and collaborates with team members to develop, utilize and share best practices. Proactively contributes to improving processes.
Reviews research protocols and compliance policies and ensures that data is provided in accordance with HIPAA and Yale policies.
Prepares project documentation and maintains project status in departmental tracking tools.
Contributes expertise and provides training to other team members or researchers related to projects, methodologies, or data.
Applies and keeps current with existing and emerging technologies.
Essential Duties

- Contributes in the development of programs or systems of small to moderate size and complexity. 2. Provides informational input into decisions concerning the development and delivery of applications, programs, and systems. Clarifies requirements to meet the expectations of stakeholders and intended end users needs, scheduled timeline, and budgetary targets. 3. Contributes to the collaborative effort of the analysis and design of new systems and applications. Performs various coding, debugging and unit testing tasks in support of applications, programs, and systems. 4. Contributes to the project definition, and the gathering of the functional requirements. 5. Troubleshoots problems whether due to data or software and rapidly resolves any problems that do occur. Provides ongoing maintenance and support for applications and systems. 6. Prepares documentation and user manuals. Provides support for training of end users. 7. Applies and keeps current with existing and emerging technologies and methodologies. Provides ongoing input to the establishment of programming standards, procedures, and methodologies. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education And Experience
Bachelor's Degree. One year programming experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to review customer requirements and translate into actionable tasks. Capable of developing creative solutions to complex problems.
Required Skill/Ability 2
Strong IT systems skill set. Experience with SQL or another data programming or reporting tool such as SAP-Webi reports and Tableau, Python, and R. Ability to achieve Epic certifications.
Required Skill/Ability 3
Ability to work in team environments and on independent projects. Ability to manage priorities and work on multiple projects concurrently.

Ability to learn understand and communicate implications of federal regulations and university policies related to clinical research and data compliance.
Required Skill/Ability 5
Strong communication and collaboration skills. Demonstrates a high degree of customer service. Must communicate effectively and diplomatically in written and verbal forms with internal and external customers and contacts.
Preferred Education, Experience And Skills
A Bachelor’s degree and Epic certification and a minimum of 1 year of work in an analyst or reporting role with SQL or other programming or reporting experience is preferred. Experience with reporting tools such as Tableau or PowerBI. Experience in a clinical research, knowledge of clinical trial design, HIPAA regulations and IRB requirements is a plus.
