The Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) is a national not-for-profit organisation representing the property development industry. Established in 1971, the Queensland office is the largest of the UDIA state bodies.

Our members are property development professionals and our business is about building communities. The UDIA Queensland consists of a head office in Brisbane, complemented by 13 regional branches around the State.   

Launched in 2006, EnviroDevelopment is the Institute's sustainability rating tool. The EnviroDevelopment framework is based on recognition of high achievement across a wide range of development types and situations. It has been structured to encourage innovation and incentives to ensure that the best environmental solutions are being used today, for a better tomorrow.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who is passionate about sustainable development. The Institute’s Program Officer - Sustainability is the engine room of the EnviroDevelopment program.

You are an organised, pragmatic, process-driven, people person with strong communication skills, well-versed in sustainability in a built environment context, with the ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders who hold varying positions within an organisation.

You will drive the success of the Institute's sustainability program by ensuring the effective management of certifications and recertifications within the EnviroDevelopment program as well as building a strong pipeline of new business opportunities.

We're looking for a fantastic communicator with intelligence, energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to go the extra mile. Tertiary environmental qualifications would be a distinct advantage.

You have qualifications in sustainability or environmental science, a keen interest in the property industry, and are looking for your next challenge. Most importantly, you are passionate about recognising innovation and elevating developers that embrace sustainable practices. 

We're a small (yet mighty) team, all working together to support our members in creating communities for Queenslanders. We're also partial to cake and a celebratory round of Uno on a Friday arvo.

General responsibilities:

• Managing the EnviroDevelopment program nationally, ensuring compliance with the National Operations Guide and associated Partner Deeds
• Actively identify project leads, engage and manage projects through the application pipeline
• Managing EnviroDevelopment project certifications
• Undertake Secretariat tasks for the Board of Management
• Ensuring documents and accurate records pertaining to EnviroDevelopment certified projects are maintained
• Review, monitor and deliver the recertification of EnviroDevelopment projects
• Effectively manage and grow the EnviroDevelopment Professionals Program
• Formulate and manage the dissemination of information to Institute members and EnviroDevelopment stakeholders, including EnviroDevelopment website updates and social media communications
• In conjunction with Board of Management, coordinate the Technical Standards Review as required
• Contribute to the development of UDIA Queensland policy submissions and/or technical documents as required including the drafting of technical documents for peer review
• Other duties as required.

• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline
• Ability to learn new topics quickly and think creatively
• Passion for sustainable outcomes in the built environment
• Strong ability in relationship management including the ability to interact with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to work autonomously
• Effective project management.
