Program Manager - Operator Enablement (Autonomous Driving) Role Summary: This role is within the Volkswagen Group of America's Autonomous Driving Mobility & Transport (ADMT) business unit. The Program Manager for Operator Enablement is responsible for onboarding new fleet operators to support scaling of commercial operations of L4 autonomous vehicles in the U.S. market. This position will oversee a team responsible for developing and implementing L&D training programs, vehicle service and maintenance processes, vehicle ordering & parts supply chain logistics, and deliver superb customer & fleet operator onboarding experiences. The operator enablement team's key objective is to successfully onboard new customers and fleet operators to safely launch, operate, and efficiently manage autonomous fleet deployments in markets across the US. The ideal candidate will have a highly strategic background in automotive or mobility operations, with demonstrated experience in global sales planning, ordering, production, logistics, and service & maintenance organizations, with exposure to US and European regions. Must have prior experience operating in a fast-growing organization, have strong program management skills as well as excellent business planning, analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Role Responsibilities: Customer & Operator Onboarding Success * Serve as U.S. program management office lead role, designing and managing overall customer and fleet operator program timelines and milestones, prioritizing and coordinating delivering of key requirements based on operations phase and maturity. * Facilitate team to design clear operator enablement concepts, requirements, and detailed roadmaps, evaluate internal and external solutions including selection of strategic supply chain partners, and execute to deliver successful & timely results. * Facilitate & support group training sessions for various AV customer & fleet operator roles. * Oversee on-going efforts to ensure B2B knowledge hub and academy materials are up to date with US & local specific requirements & procedures and made available through appropriate channels. * Participate in regular customer & operator feedback sessions, proactively identifying potential pain points along user journey and recommending pragmatic solutions to promote the highest levels of customer satisfaction (create "wow" moments) with available internal resources. * Support relationship management activities across strategic partners, customers, and fleet operators to ensure long-term, mutually beneficial relationships between ADMT and our partner ecosystem. * Maintain up-to-date market insights to monitor and benchmark industry best practices to incorporate key learnings to ensure operating partners deliver the highest levels of safety, operational excellence, process optimization, and value creation. Operator Enablement Org, Program, and Process Design Set-up & Implementation * Identify and gather US-specific customer and operational requirements (e.g. hub, operations, service & maintenance) across various stages (i.e. development, driverless launch, commercial scaling, market expansion), and obtain necessary changes to artifacts (e.g. operator handbooks, infrastructure/IT requirements & guidelines, digital platform software manuals, service manuals, training and documentation, onboarding playbooks) within the broader operator enablement organization. * Oversee successful design and implementation of sales ordering, logistics, customs, aftersales service & maintenance, and remote guidance/control center solutions or processes to support various customers and fleet operators. * Drive incubation of US operator enablement functions, developing MVP concepts supporting key decisions on operations strategy, organizational build-up, and solution implementation plans. * Work closely with various teams to translate internal technical documentation and procedures into external facing on-boarding & training materials into easy to understand, logical structure and format that encourages quick ramp-up, maximizing learning effectiveness and knowledge retention. * Work with cross-functional teams e.g. engineering, quality control, product, and operations to promote operational fail-safe methods with risk-mitigating product development solutions to reduce the need for onerous and complex training methods over time. * Support the evaluation of various L&D implementation strategies, benchmarking VW OEM training & academy programs & marketplace vendors, and develop solution recommendations and proposals. * Drive company leadership buy-in and influence key planning decisions regarding operator enablement organizational set-up and on-going process improvement initiatives. Other * Mentor and guide team members to ensure professional growth. Qualifications Years of Relevant Experience: * 12 years of relevant experience in operations enablement roll-out management or implementation, operations technical program management, commercial fleet operations set-up, and/or operations strategy. Candidates should have significant experience implementing and executing enablement programs at a global scale, supporting sales and operations functions. * 5 years of senior program management experience leading large cross functional teams to drive overall program success with timely delivery and significant organizational impact. Education - Required: * Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field * Preferred: Master's degree Skills: * Proven experience leading, developing, and growing high-performing teams * Ability to influence, manage, and execute new strategic initiatives & organizational priorities * Ability to build strong relationships and influence technical, business, and operational decisions * Exceptional written & verbal communication skills * Capable of successfully operating in fast-paced & dynamic environments * Strong strategic project management, comprehensive due diligence, and organizational skills * Highly competent in solving complex problems in a proactive, efficient, and pragmatic solution-oriented manner * Strong judgment and detail oriented in exercising careful planning Required Specialized Skills: * Strong familiarity with mobility, transportation, and self-driving technology * Experience with leading or developing customer or operations support / enablement departments, with a focus on customer onboarding & support in early technology software and hardware development or fleet management industries * Strong operations technical program management skills, key objectives and milestone planning, and driving multiple initiatives simultaneously for timely customer delivery * Experience in fleet management operations, charging, service and maintenance activities * Proven leadership to create collaborative internal & external relationships across all employee levels, manage and drive teams to deliver complex large projects on timely basis * Advanced proficiency in developing various types of working team and management presentations & reporting Desired Specialized Skills: * Experience with operating large vehicle fleets in transportation industry * Experience in autonomous vehicle operations * Experience in operations strategy, industrial engineering, and/or human-centered operations design thinking * Knowledge of automotive after sales service & maintenance, global logistics processes, and/or new program launch processes * Technical proficiency and organizational skills to identify, streamline, and implement product and process improvements across L&D training, service & maintenance, or vehicle operations & logistics Work Flexibility: * Accommodation for working time zone differences between international locations as needed * Travel is estimated to be 10-25%. * Role requires flexibility in daily schedule, including early morning meetings with Europe, evenings for the West Coast, and weekends for events and travel. The average base salary range for this role in Belmont, CA will be $190,000 - $210,000, plus an annual bonus target and other incentives and benefits.
