Summary

The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish.

The Department of Youth and Community Development is seeking a Community Coordinator to help lead its efforts to support Community Based Organizations to assist and work with at-risk, homeless, runaway, and vulnerable youth in New York City.

The Community Coordinator will plan, implement, and direct programs related to Vulnerable, Runaway, and Homeless Youth, as well as Young Adult services by evaluating and researching program needs, and consulting with key personnel and community members to facilitate delivery of services.

The Community Coordinator will conduct regular site visits at locations in all five boroughs to assess programmatic and administrative issues and help improve quality of services. Ensuring Community Based Organizations are trained in the areas of various youth development concerns as well as safety.

The Community Coordinator will review data submitted by the community-based organizations by examining forms, records, and other data insuring that the Department of Youth and Community Development as well as the Office of Children and Family services mandates are followed.

The Community Coordinator will create summary reports and program analyses to keep direct care supervisors informed of programmatic progress and community opportunities, including trainings and make recommendations to improve program performance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

The Community Coordinator will need to be able to utilize and become proficient with the Department of Youth and Community Development’s web-based information technology program management systems, such as the Participant Tracking System, the Evaluating and Monitoring System, Passport, ECMS and HHS. The Community Coordinator will assist with the success of new programmatic initiatives such as emergency housing vouchers, mental health hubs, financial literacy, New York City Thrive, peer navigators and housing navigators. The Community Coordinator will analyze data submitted by Community Based Organizations to help drive and direct services for improvement.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
