Position Overview

Bascom Hunter is seeking experienced Program Managers to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex environmental control and power system programs for Aerospace & Defense customers. This role is on-site and is a critical leadership position within our engineering and operations teams.

The ideal candidates will bring strong project management and customer relationship skills, backed by a technical background in mechanical engineering, with a focus on power systems, rotating machinery, or thermal management technologies. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge programs with direct impact on national security and aerospace innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary program lead for multiple concurrent Aerospace & Defense projects, managing cost, schedule, technical performance, and risk.
  • Act as the key liaison between customers, suppliers, and internal teams, ensuring clear communication of requirements, expectations, and progress.
  • Oversee program scope definition, requirements development, project planning, resource allocation, and performance tracking.
  • Lead cross-functional teams of engineers, designers, and manufacturing specialists in the design, integration, and qualification of environmental control and power systems.
  • Drive program reviews, risk management, and mitigation planning throughout the entire program lifecycle.
  • Manage technical baselines, customer deliverables, and contract compliance in accordance with DoD and industry standards.
  • Support proposal development, cost estimating, and contract negotiation for new opportunities.
  • Mentor junior engineers and project leads, fostering a culture of technical rigor and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in engineering, program management, or technical leadership roles within Aerospace, Defense, or industrial systems markets.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex technical programs with power systems, rotating machinery (fans, blowers, pumps, turbines, or compressors), or thermal management components.
  • Strong technical understanding of mechanical systems, fluid dynamics, and thermal management.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills with a proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams.
  • U.S. Citizenship required (due to DoD contract requirements).
  • Position is 100% on-site.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Business.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with military standards (MIL-STD), AS9100 quality systems, and environmental/operational qualification programs.
  • Familiarity with program financials, Earned Value Management (EVM), or government contract management.
