Function
Working with Company, the Program Manager, Indigenous Agreements reports to the Senior Manager, Indigenous Affairs on the assigned project(s). The incumbent is expected to liaise extensively with Company departments and external legal advisors, government representatives, and Indigenous government representatives and legal advisors.
The ideal candidate will have the experience and education to perform the duties and job functions associated with this position, which include, but are not limited to, the following:
Prepare and document Indigenous Agreement negotiation strategies, taking into account best practices, risks, and mitigations;
Support/lead negotiations relating Indigenous Agreements;
Support the implementation of Indigenous Agreements;
Perform action tracking related to Indigenous Agreements;
Draft/review/interpret Indigenous Agreement language;
Coordinate meetings/sessions with Indigenous entities;
Prepare reports and presentations outlining progress and risks to internal stakeholders, including Company’s Executive Leadership Team and Boards of Directors, as well as various levels of government, where required;
Prepare and monitor Indigenous Agreement Implementation Plans;
Maintain files and adhere to IM standards;
Proactive support of a safety culture where “Nobody Gets Hurt”; and Other related duties, as assigned.
Requirements
Relevant work experience and requirements:
Bachelor of Laws or Commerce required, Masters preferred, other educational credentials may be considered;
Candidates are expected to be in a Specialist or Senior Program Manager role.
Proven track record in successfully negotiating and implementing Indigenous Agreements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an awareness and understanding of Indigenous cultures.
A team-focused approach and collaborative nature are required.
A strong understanding of Indigenous law, land claims, and current practices and trends is required.
Experience working with Indigenous governments and in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Familiarity with Company procedures and expectations is considered an asset.
