Program Manager / PMO Lead - Defence Sector
NV1 Clearance | Williamtown, NSW | High-Impact National Security Program

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Program Manager, PMO Lead, or Portfolio Manager to join a strategic Defence initiative based in Williamtown, NSW. This role plays a pivotal part in delivering capability outcomes critical to national security, requiring a blend of governance leadership, strategic planning, and operational execution.

This is a high-visibility opportunity suited to professionals with a strong background in Defence programs, capability lifecycle management, and cross-agency stakeholder coordination. You will be supporting and driving outcomes across a portfolio of projects, working closely with Capability Managers, Subject Matter Experts, and multidisciplinary teams.

Note: Active NV1 security clearance is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead program and portfolio planning, governance, and performance monitoring.

  • Coordinate project submissions through capability lifecycle stages, ensuring alignment with Defence strategy.

  • Drive FIC integration and cross-functional collaboration across Defence and external agencies.

  • Maintain and govern program-level documentation including iPMPs, risk registers, and reporting schedules.

  • Mentor junior project staff and contribute to uplift of project delivery capability across the PMU.

  • Conduct structured reporting and decision support to executive stakeholders.

  • Identify and manage program-level risks, interdependencies, and resource allocations.

  • Guide strategic prioritisation of deliverables to meet capability and readiness requirements.

You Will Bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in program, portfolio, or PMO leadership within Defence or similar complex government environments.

  • Deep understanding of the One Defence Capability System and governance processes.

  • Expertise in risk management, resource planning, stakeholder engagement, and reporting.

  • Proven ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels, with strong analytical and decision-making skills.

  • Track record of mentoring and developing project teams and supporting continuous improvement.

Mandatory:

  • NV1 security clearance (active and current).

  • Australian Citizenship.

  • Willingness to work on-site in Williamtown, NSW.
