JOB DESCRIPTION 

Title: Program Coordinator (exempt, full-time) 

Location: Syracuse, NY 

Position Reports to: Program Director 

Position Summary: This position offers a professional candidate the opportunity to help expand a growing non-profit organization whose  vision for adolescents and young adults (AYs) with cancer is both compelling and important. The ideal candidate is able to lead effective peer  programs, engage and retain new AYA members, heighten community and school awareness, and develop new fundraising initiatives. The  primary responsibility of this position is to contribute talent, time and uplifting energy in service to our mission: Helping adolescents and  young adults (AYAs) with cancer live their very best lives – today! 


RESPONSIBILITIES  

Programs (50%) 

• Program Design: design and develop relevant and interesting AYA peer programs in collaboration with Program Director and  Rochester Program Manager; stay abreast of AYA oncology issues through relevant reading, intra-organization relationships. 

• Program Delivery: lead and facilitate regularly scheduled programs aligned with organizational goals and consistent with  organizational values. 

• Participant Engagement: manage individual needs and group interactions; facilitate discussions and engage participants in a safe,  motivating, and supportive environment. 

• Program Administration: manage program budget, scheduling, materials, guest presenters, volunteers, and in-kind donations;  Maintain accurate and timely documentation and reporting of programs. 

• Member Engagement & Retention: Develop and maintain relationships with AYAs through calls, texts, social media, email;  coordinate with hospital staff to meet patients during in-patient and clinic visits; proactively seek new members. 

• Healthcare Referrals: Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with regional healthcare systems. 

Community Engagement (50%) 

• Community Awareness: Represent 13thirty Cancer Connect at Syracuse community events (festivals, health fairs, speaking  engagements); develop and maintain close working relationships with all local media outlets; manage Quarterly CNY Cancer  Alliance meetings; actively participate in local Chambers of Commerce. 

• School Awareness: Develop and implement outreach plan to Syracuse school districts and universities. 

• Fundraising: Support Director of Marketing/Events with 3rd party Syracuse fundraisers and internal events; supporting Rochester  Bald for Bucks program; collaborate with Development Manager to build Syracuse donor base. 

Teamwork (100%): 

• Support all organizational efforts with a “can-do” attitude and willingness to go “above and beyond” when necessary. • Demonstrate initiative and creative problem-solving to achieve organizational goals.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Bachelor degree in human services or related field 

• Experience in program development and facilitation  

• Proven planning and organizational skills; excellent written and verbal communication 

• Proficiency using a MAC computer and desktop publishing tools 


Other: 

• Work at the Rochester Center 1 regularly scheduled day/week. Travel will be reimbursed. 

• Ability to work evening and weekend shifts as programming & events dictate 

• Ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted
