About New Age Prep

New Age Prep is an access organization committed to preparing high-achieving students from underserved communities—particularly in East Harlem and throughout New York City—for placement into private day, boarding, and specialized high schools. Our mission goes beyond admissions—we equip students with the academic, social, and emotional tools they need to thrive.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Program Coordinator to serve as “boots on the ground” support for New Age Prep’s spring, summer, and fall programming. This role is ideal for someone passionate about educational equity, who enjoys working directly with students and families, and who understands both the NYC Department of Education (DOE) and independent/private school landscapes.

This position will begin as a volunteer role for the spring of 2025 (on an as-needed basis around events such as info sessions, interviews, and field trips). Starting in the summer, it will transition to a paid hourly role (10–20 hours/week) to support our summer enrichment and fall program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the on-site coordinator and chaperone for student events, including our upcoming group field trip with two NYC public schools visiting a private school campus.
  • Act as a liaison between public schools, private schools, and New Age Prep leadership.
  • Support event logistics, including scheduling, attendance tracking, and communication with families.
  • Provide on-the-ground support for summer programming (Upper Manhattan site), including classroom setup, student check-ins, and activity coordination.
  • Assist with parent outreach, student engagement, and other program-related tasks as needed.

  • Ideal Candidate Qualifications
    • Experience working with youth (preferably in a classroom, after-school, or summer program setting).
    • Passionate about educational access, mentorship, and supporting underserved communities.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to connect with students, families, and educators.
    • Familiarity with the NYC DOE system and/or the independent/private school admissions process is a plus.
    • Must be based in NYC and able to travel to Upper Manhattan daily during the summer (with flexible, event-based availability during the spring).

    Compensation
    • Spring 2025: Volunteer (as-needed for events)
    • Summer 2025: Paid hourly position (9-12pm Summertime and 4-6pm After School in Fall) ( rate TBD based on experience)
