Afterschool Choir / Chorus Coordinator 8-10 hours per week (3 afternoons/week) JOB SUMMARY: The Afterschool Choir / Chorus Coordinator is responsible for directing and managing the overall program of choral music for grades 4th-8th. The Afterschool Choir / Chorus Coordinator provides students with an opportunity to participate in onsite and off-site band activities. In addition, the Afterschool Choir / Chorus Coordinator is responsible for teaching music theory and choir / choral singing foundational skills. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct 4th-8th grade choir / choral performers. Establish performance requirements and enforce academic, attendance and behavioral requirements. Provide for choir / choral participation at extracurricular events, including parades, pep rallies, school related events and community events. Collaborate on the arrangement of transportation and logistics for choral scholars. Comply with DCPS and Empowerment Enterprise II rules, polies and district wide procedures. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs. Recommend opportunities to improve program. Manage inventory associated with the effective execution of the choral program. Maintain professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Skills and Competency: Ability to foster positive and loving relationships with beginner musicians. Ability to teach basic music skills to include music theory, introduction to choral and performance techniques. Understanding of music theory associated with choral performance. Understanding of engagement strategies for inner city youth. Ability to work in a single gender environment. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Required: 2-3 years of experience in college level choral direction and participation Preferred: Bachelor's degree in music field that is conducive to establishing, educating, and directing an afterschool choir.
