The Program Aide provides assistance with aseptic surgical procedures, post-operative care, preparation of sterile surgical materials, collection of imaging data, and data/sample collection and processing, in addition to other general assistance to the laboratory as needed. The Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) is an institution that represents 100 years of growth from a small school of veterinary medicine in 1916 to its present role as a major veterinary educational, medical, and research center. Today, we are one of the largest schools of veterinary medicine in the United States, training nearly 600 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students each year. We support collaboration and teamwork that turns today's discoveries into proactive solutions for animals, humans, and the environment. Together, we strive to support the goals of the faculty, staff and students in teaching, research and outreach programs. Opportunities to Contribute * Surgery and Data Collection: Assists with presurgical preparation of animals. Assists with anesthesia and recording of physiologic data. Assists with collection and processing of experimental samples. * Surgical and Experimental Preparation: Assists with cleaning of all surgical instruments & sterile preparation of same. Provides assistance with setup of necessary materials before each experiment. * Socialization and Training Support: Spends time socializing with the animals before procedures begin. Participates in desensitization training to allow wearing of protective jackets. * Work Area Maintenance: Maintains work areas to ensure smooth processing of samples and data collection. The well-qualified candidate will possess: * B.S. or higher degree * Experience with farm animals * Experience working/shadowing at a veterinary clinic and exposure to aseptic surgery * Experience caring for animals such as volunteering/working at shelters, caring for animals in a similar husbandry setting * Ability to effectively communicate * Strong interpersonal and organizational skills * Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others What you need to know Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to the selected hire's experience. Schedule: This is a temporary, part-time position to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TAMU does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.
