Position Summary: The Production Manager has broad responsibility and leadership for overall optimization of the department to ensure Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost targets are met and improved. This position will require collaboration with the product line and sales team to balance priorities and meet customer demands. Ideal candidates will have a strong manufacturing background, coupled with experience in leading teams and measuring team performance. Strong technical knowledge is necessary to interface with engineering, business processes, suppliers, and customers. Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and lean tools will be a key part of successfully reducing waste in production. Drives team accountability through Daily Management process and reports out on metrics to top management.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for leading and managing the assembly production team including day-to-day business operations.
- Successful achievement of production output and financial goals as measured through the profit and loss statement (P&L).
- Exhibit strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to develop positive working relationships with both internal and external customers.
- Partner with leadership in developing and implementing customer-oriented strategies to improve on-time delivery, capacity, quality, and cost.
- Able to plan, direct and delegate work to others, assess performance and make improvements or take corrective action.
- Strong lean manufacturing experience especially in continuous improvement, elimination of waste, 5S, Kaizen events, visual management and Value Stream Mapping (or process mapping tools).
- Provide direction in developing and integrating new technology.
- Monitor, review, and direct operations by providing feedback on production standards and capabilities.
- Drive continuous improvement through culture by involving employees in problem solving and key decisions, as well as recognizing them for exceptional work.
- Set operational priorities and achieve key business measures and key performance indicators (KPIs) as established in the company’s Strategic Deployment (SD) process.
- Directly supervise Production Leads and Operators as well as lead daily GEMBA’s through the shop floor.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, or related field, AND
- 6 years of experience as a Manufacturing Management Professional OR Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven ability to learn and apply modern production and material methodologies that may include Six Sigma, SPC, Kanban, 5S, Value Stream Mapping and other means to improve and control processes.
- Understanding of quality system requirements.
- Electronics, government, and military high-reliability experience preferred.
- Financial and management systems experience preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate with personnel at all levels within the organization.
- Change management and conflict management skills.
- Self-starter who takes a proactive approach in leading their operation.
Work Environment: This is an office and manufacturing floor-based position.
