Job Description Summary

Applies engineering technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques to support product support engineering and analysis to ensure supportability, sustainability, reliability, maintainability and operability of products and services throughout its lifecycle. Develops product definition, design and configuration. Defines, evaluates and maintains engineering supportability, operability and maintainability requirements for products, systems and programs. Analyzes data to produce support, flight operation and maintenance equipment requirements. Evaluates engineering changes based on customer requirements and proposes program changes and manages implementation of changes. Plans, researches, develops, analyzes, and designs modification and repair solutions that comply with customer, regulatory, Safety and company requirements. Establishes planning and design criteria to develop integrated support and maintenance infrastructure. Supports continued airworthiness. Provides engineering and on-site technical assistance to customer’s products including, ground support equipment, training devices, training facilities, operations facilities and maintenance facilities. Coordinates and supports proposal development.

Boeing Global Services (BGS) Military Commercial Derivative Aircraft (MCDA) team seeks a skilled Product Support Maintenance Engineer to perform a range of activities including analyzing complex engineering designs and design changes to determine maintenance/repair requirements, procedures and instructions. Position will participate in organizational activities that influence the Aerospace Industry.

The MCDA team supports all derivative programs in the Puget Sound (P-8, KC-46, VC-25B and E-7). This position is on-site. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform all work on-site at one of the listed location options (Tukwila, WA). This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

Position Responsibilities

  • Oversee the evaluation of engineering data, in-service reliability data regulations to develop the initial minimum scheduled maintenance requirements, product certification and instructions for continued airworthiness (ICA) by performing MSG-3 Analysis
  • Develop the Maintenance Review Board Report (MRBR), Maintenance Planning Document (MPD), Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), Structural Repair Manual (SRM) and Supplemental Structural Inspection Documents/Programs (SSID/SSIP)
  • Lead/participate in Industry Steering Committee (ISC) and Working Group meetings
  • Work with Design Engineering and Regulatory through Supplemental Type Certification (STC) and Military Type Certification (MTC)
  • Analyzes in-service data for Mission Capability and Aircraft Availability
  • Coordinate with Engineering IPTs and other support and training IPTs
  • Work with Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) on the creation, tracking and oversight of CITAPS (Commercial Item Transfer at Price) as required.
  • Additional responsibilities include; budget, scheduling and Basis of Estimate (BOE) activities.
  • Provide logistics support input for proposal development and participate in negotiations when required.
  • Influence product designs and processes to ensure supportability and maintainability; develop and use fault isolation procedures and techniques.
  • Create systems theory descriptions to ensure common understanding of systems and components and conduct engineering analyses to verify the accuracy of maintenance/repair data
  • Develop and provide technical solutions to customers; evaluate customers' maintenance operations and develop procedures and techniques to allow users to maintain and repair products


This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. secret clearance Post Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • 3+ years of experience with aircraft maintenance and repair computer applications such as “My Boeing Fleet”
  • 3+ years of experience analyzing and interpreting engineering data for inclusion into maintenance manuals and technical publications


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Experience working within FAA regulations
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant License highly desired.
  • Experience with military commercial derivative aircraft
  • Experience supporting military commercial derivative aircraft with FAA continued airworthiness
  • Experience interfacing directly with suppliers and the United States Air Force (USAF)
  • Experience with military aircraft maintenance processes, policies, culture, and/or standard practices


Typical Education/ Experience

Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
