We are looking for a Product Manager - Controls to support our team at our corporate location in Cincinnati, Ohio
Role Overview: The Product Manager is a pivotal leadership position focused on driving the strategic direction and successful commercialization of our Lighting Controls, Canopy, and Soffit fixture products. This role involves direct oversight of one team member and requires comprehensive expertise in both operational and marketing aspects of your product portfolio, including guiding strategic initiatives, forecasting, quoting, sales reporting, and providing sales support.
Strategic Responsibilities:
Financial Management
* Understand and analyze pricing and cost variables to effectively manage product profitability profiles, ensuring alignment with company profitability objectives.
New Product Development (NPD)
* Champion the NPD process, proactively managing product portfolio roadmaps.
* Develop and execute strategic plans for technology and product development, prioritizing key initiatives.
* Utilize Voice of Customer (VOC) methodologies to gather insights, understand market needs, and develop tailored solutions to achieve customer satisfaction and drive organic growth.
Portfolio Management
* Develop comprehensive product plans that align with long-term, profitable growth objectives.
* Conduct portfolio analyses to identify growth opportunities by market and product segment.
* Provide strategic analysis of market trends, competitor activities, technological advancements, and customer requirements.
* Lead cross-functional teams in executing aligned plans to drive superior financial outcomes.
Supplier Engagement
* Identify and engage with suppliers as necessary to support product development and commercialization.
* Collaborate closely with Engineering and Sourcing teams, who will maintain primary responsibility for supplier relationships.
Tactical Responsibilities:
Financial Execution
* Collaborate closely with Operations and Finance to ensure product lines meet established revenue and profitability goals.
Product Commercialization
* Lead commercialization efforts for new and existing products through strategic marketing and promotion initiatives.
* Understand and articulate detailed product applications, positioning our solutions effectively to meet specific customer requirements.
* Represent the company professionally at industry trade shows and events.
* Actively support product launches and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Provide input to Commercial Marketing, offering strategic guidance on product development and problem resolution.
Control Layouts and Proposals
* Oversee the creation of control layouts to ensure accuracy, effectiveness, and alignment with customer specifications.
* Generate proposals in close collaboration with the pricing department to ensure competitiveness and profitability.
Customer and Sales Support
* Foster strong relationships with the sales organization to enhance product knowledge, refine market strategies, and drive revenue growth.
* Develop and deliver engaging product presentations to internal sales teams and external audiences, including customers and channel partners.
* Support sales efforts by providing technical expertise, training, and assistance to local representatives as needed.
Internal Business Operations
* Prepare accurate product demand forecasts that align with market trends and company objectives to support the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process.
* Maintain clear and effective communication with management and internal stakeholders regarding market developments.
* Partner with Operations to address systemic product issues related to quality, supply chain, or design.
Skills & Experience Required:
* Bachelor's degree required; MBA strongly preferred.
* 7-10 years of experience in relevant product marketing and management.
* Proven experience in successfully commercializing products.
* Knowledge and experience in Lighting Controls required.
* Experience in the lighting industry is highly desirable.
* Experience working with agents, distributors, contractors, or specifiers is advantageous.
* Demonstrated ability to drive change and deliver measurable, sustainable improvements.
* Strong analytical and strategic mindset with an emphasis on market expansion and overcoming business challenges.
* Exceptional communication skills to effectively influence internal teams and external partners.
* Proven ability to lead teams, foster collaboration, and implement strategic change.
* Previous supervisory or team management experience is strongly preferred.
