Product Design Engineer. This position reports to the Engineering Manager and will work in Sparta, TN.
As
Product Design Engineer of the Sparta team, you will be involved in product development including design, verification, validation, launch and support of products and components used in marine sanitation applications. Develop and evaluate electromechanical systems to meet cost and functional targets.
General Responsibilities
- Lead new product design/development activities
- Identify opportunities for current product design improvements, earn approval and then make those improvements happen
- Prepare design documentation for new products and components such as drawings, engineering specifications and test reports.
- Manage priority of ECN within department via spreadsheet
- Design products and components utilizing prescribed tools such as QFD, CAD, DFMA, DFMEA’s in accordance with ISO9001 requirements and procedures.
- Participate in the full development cycle, from requirements analysis, design, development, implementation, validation, documentation and on-going support.
- Assembly and component design including, concept generation, 3D modeling, material selection, stress analysis, etc.
- Hold design reviews and conduct validation tests (salt spray, lifecycle, tolerance validation).
- Manage Bill of Materials for production assemblies.
- Develop and Design test procedures to verify designs/improvements.
- Research and develop systems solutions for identified market opportunities.
- Develop project plans, coordinate activities and report on project status.
- Work in multi-function/new product development teams, including program and product management, manufacturing engineering, supply chain management and production.
- Interact with customers and suppliers and represent Dometic Corporation.
- Assist in applications support and troubleshooting as required.
- Occasional travel to key customers for install reviews/customer visits.
- Complete additional job duties as assigned.

Skills & Requirements
The ideal candidate for this role will bring demonstrated success in an engineering and manufacturing environment. Additionally, they will have acquired the following qualifications and experiences:
- BSc. in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering (other disciplines may be accepted)
- Strong experience in specifying and designing electromechanical systems
- Demonstrated experience in product performance testing and evaluation
- Strong project manager able to support multiple projects simultaneously
- GD&T experience/understanding
- Knowledge of plumbing standards (IAPMO, CSA) is an asset
- CFD & FEA knowledge considered an asset
- Coding/programming experience a plus
- Proficiency in Solidworks or similar CAD software.
- Self-starter and “Can do” attitude a must!

- Familiar with volume production processes including casting, extrusions, powder metal, injection molding, precision machining sheet metal fabrication and welding.
- Proficient with SolidWorks or similar CAD system.
- Familiar with MRP systems to control engineering Bills of Materials.
- Proficient in design procedures, specifications and engineering software/simulation tools.
- Strong ability to produce reliable cost-effective designs for industrial applications.
- Strong understanding of test methodology and design of experiments.
- Familiar with electronic instrumentation/sensors & test equipment.
- Familiar with safety regulations (CSA, CE and other regulatory requirements).
- Apply industry standards such as SAE, ASTM, ISO; familiarity with ISO9001 requirements.
- Familiarity with QFD, Design and Process FMEAs.
- Mechanical design, verification, validation, launch and support of products and components.
- Validate electromechanical design solutions that meet requirements and cost targets in a timely manner.
- Approved mechanical design and test requirements documentation, test reports, and reports for customers on design and test results.
- Contribute to multifunctional teams as the expert in sanitation solutions.
