Summary

Summary/Objective As a Tooling Engineer specializing in progressive tooling at Tempel, you will play a critical role in optimizing tooling processes and equipment to enhance manufacturing efficiency, quality, and reliability. Reporting directly to the Plant Engineering Manager, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement innovative solutions that meet customer requirements and drive operational excellence in the tooling department. Essential Functions * Collaborate with design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to develop and optimize tooling processes and equipment to produce electrical steel laminations, ensuring precision, accuracy, and repeatability. * Assist in the design, development, and validation of tooling fixtures, dies, and molds, utilizing CAD software and simulation tools to optimize geometry, material selection, and manufacturing processes. * Conduct process validation and optimization activities, including tooling trials, capability studies, and root cause analysis, to identify opportunities for improvement and enhance process robustness. * Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to production teams, assisting in the resolution of tooling-related issues, equipment malfunctions, and process deviations. * Support continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis, process monitoring, and technology adoption to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall productivity in the tooling department. Education and Experience * Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field. * 5-8 years of experience in process engineering, tooling engineering, or a related field, preferably in a manufacturing environment. * Solid understanding of tooling design principles, manufacturing processes, and equipment operation, with experience in CAD software and simulation tools. * Knowledge of metal forming processes, including stamping, punching, and die casting, is advantageous. Competencies * Demonstrates proficiency in both verbal and written communication. * Possesses excellent analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail and a logical approach to problem-solving. * Exhibits a clear understanding of operational policies and procedures, consistently complying with and applying them appropriately to ensure compliance and quality standards. * Proactively keeps abreast of new work methods, skills, and technologies relevant to the role, effectively integrating them into work processes to drive innovation and improvement. * Plans, prioritizes, and organizes work activities efficiently to maximize productivity and deliver measurable results within established timelines. Work Environment * Must be able and comfortable to work in a heavy-industrial environment * Must be able to work from heights * Must be able to work standing up 80% of the time * Must be able to walk to work locations 100% of the time * Must be able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel and reach below/above shoulders to access equipment for repair * Must be able to lift tools, parts and equipment up to 50 lbs. unassisted Compensation & Benefits * Benefits start Day 1 - including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 401(k) (with company contribution and employee match) * Performance-based pay increases * Paid vacation and holidays * Work with a team that values safety, innovation, and continuous improvement * Our base pay for this position is $95k to $115k reflective of the candidates' experience.
