SCW Systems is the international market leader in supercritical water gasification. In Alkmaar, we operate the world’s first industrial-scale facility with a capacity of 10 tons per hour. This innovative technology allows us to efficiently convert (Challenging) waste streams into green gas, green hydrogen, and clean water. In 2023, we achieved a global first by demonstrating this technology successfully at industrial scale.
We are looking for a
(medior/ senior) Process Engineer for our SuperCritical CleanUp (SCC) division to take an active role in the technical development, scale-up, and international deployment of our technology. Exceptionally well-qualified candidates will be considered for a senior role.
What is SuperCritical CleanUp (SCC)?
SCC is the SCW division responsible for developing and deploying our pioneering supercritical water gasification technology. We transform waste streams into valuable products in a sustainable way. In this role, you'll work across the entire process chain: from pre-treatment and gasification to gas purification and water treatment. Our demonstration plant in Alkmaar is a tangible result of this progressive approach.
Your role as Process Engineer
As a Process Engineer, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team focused on maintaining and improving operational processes, with a specific focus on water treatment and pre-treatment. You combine technical expertise with a hands-on approach and contribute to both day-to-day operations and the long-term technology roadmap. Exceptionally well-qualified candidates will be considered for a senior role
Your responsibilities include:
- Preparing and coordinating test plans
- Performing root cause analyses (RCA) and translating findings into technical improvement proposals
- Actively contributing to commissioning and optimization of systems
- Designing process equipment such as pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and reactors
- Creating design documentation such as P&IDs, Heat & Mass Balances, and functional descriptions
- Specifying and selecting new process equipment, including technical evaluation of supplier quotations
- Participating in HAZOP sessions and performing follow-up studies such as LOPA and SIL verification

This is what we are looking for:
- You have a completed Bachelor's (HBO) or Master’s degree in Process or Chemical Engineering.
- You have at least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in process engineering or the (petro)chemical industry.
- You have experience with performing process calculations and working with process simulation software (such as Aspen, Unisim, Symmetry, or Pro/II).
- You have knowledge and experience in system qualification and process validation.
- You are familiar with performing process safety calculations (e.g. relief valves, rupture disks).
- You have experience conducting HAZOP and LOPA studies.
- You collaborate easily across various disciplines (mechanical, instrumentation, electrical) within the organization.
- You are fluent in both Dutch and English.
- You have a good command of Microsoft Office applications.
