Summary

Principal Software Engineer – Implantable Device System - Onsite – Minneapolis, MN

We’re hiring on behalf of a confidential medical device company that’s developed the first fully implanted system for hearing restoration—a product that’s already being used in human clinical trials.

They’re looking for a Principal Software Engineer to lead development of the PC-based software that connects to the implantable device. This isn’t a support role—you’ll be writing new code, solving complex problems, and helping define the direction of the software stack.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Own design, development, and testing of a C#/.NET application used in live surgical and clinical settings
  • Write real-time interfaces that communicate with an implantable device via BLE and USB
  • Drive debugging and root cause analysis in close collaboration with firmware, electrical, and systems engineers
  • Support documentation, V&V, and design control processes (IEC 62304, ISO 14708)
  • Help shape and grow the internal software function—this is a senior technical leadership role

What You Bring:

  • 7+ years building production-grade software (or 5+ with a Master’s)
  • Strong skills in C#, .NET, and Visual Studio
  • Familiarity with BLE, USB, and device communication protocols (I2C, SPI)
  • Experience in a regulated development environment (FDA, MDR, etc.)
  • Desire to work in a close-knit team building software that actually gets used by clinicians and patients

Bonus If You’ve Worked With:

  • Cybersecurity for medical or safety-critical applications
  • Tools like Azure DevOps, Git, Jira, Jama
  • Implantable systems, or Class III medical devices

Why This Role?

  • Build software that matters—this device is already changing lives
  • High ownership: You’ll drive architecture, development, and process
  • Zero fluff: This team values clear communication, deep technical focus, and shared responsibility
  • Competitive salary + strong benefits (stock options, 401k match, full medical, generous PTO)
  • Onsite in Minneapolis with low travel (<10%)

If you're tired of red tape or stale product work, and you're ready to build real-world tech in a high-performing team—this could be a great fit.
