Overview
General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systmes manufactures and sells a broad range of high performance electro-mechanical and electro-optical components and sub-assemblies to the aerospace, defense, intelligence, reconnaissance, and surveillance markets. We presently have a need for a Principal Electrical Engineer at our San Diego (Otay Mesa) location.
This position plans and implements the design, manufacture, installation and/or maintenance of electrical systems and apparatus, such as electric motors, machinery controls, lighting, wiring and power systems/devices, for the generation, transmission and control of electric power. This role is elegibile for a referral bonus.
Preferred experience for this role:
* Designs and develops new brushed and multiphase brushless DC electric motors.
* Improves existing designs to reduce cost, improve performance or manufacturability.
* Conducts detailed reviews of customer specifications.
* Prepares or directs preparation of product and/or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics.
* Performs design experiments related to motor designs and develops test methods, from concept to planning and execution stage.
* Directs and coordinates manufacturing and testing of prototype products and/or systems.
* Assist in trouble shooting prototype building and/or production when necessary.
* Conducts motor performance predictions by analyses of actual data and through the development of design related algorithms in addition to the existing methods.
* May act as project engineer support on selected projects.
* Interface with customers for as required to support existing products or for new development opportunities.

* Applies mathematical and engineering principles and methods to designs.
* Performs extensive testing and validation of designs to ensure reliability, performance, and safety standards are achieved.
* Conducts research and studies new technologies to innovate and design solutions or products.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience: Associate's Degree and 8-10 years experience
Preferred Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree
Discipline/Major: Electrical Engineering or other Engineering degree required
