What You'll Do
This full-time, permanent position in a manufacturing environment plays a critical role in the production of charitable and lottery gaming products, including pull-tab tickets (break-open tickets) and bingo paper.
The position is responsible for providing operational support to various printing presses involved in the production of charitable and lottery gaming products. The Press Auxiliary Machine Operator must be a proactive, detail-oriented individual capable of performing under pressure while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate for the Press Auxiliary Machine Operator position will have 4+ years of hands-on experience in machine operation, production processes, print and bindery production equipment, with a strong focus on quality control, troubleshooting and operational efficiency. This candidate will possess a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, a commitment to producing high-quality products and be ready to engage with various tasks across the press operations process. This individual must be capable of quickly learning new machinery and techniques, adapting to evolving production needs and maintaining a keen focus on safety and quality at all times. The ideal candidate is flexible, can handle multiple tasks at once and consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic and dedication to operational excellence. Additionally, a proactive mindset toward maintaining equipment, reducing waste and improving processes will make them a standout contributor to the team.
Additional Duties And Responsibilities Include
- Set up and operator machines (Die Cutter, Scitex/Rollem and other cutters), including loading materials, adjusting machine settings and testing initial runs to ensure smooth production start-ups.
- Monitor machine parameters and adjust to ensure the equipment maintains proper registration and uniformity throughout production cycles.
- Assist with webbing up and loading/unloading machines, ensuring no damage to materials or components.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks on machinery such as lubrication, cleaning and inspecting mechanical parts for wear.
- Troubleshoot machine malfunctions during production runs and make necessary adjustments or repairs to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate with maintenance staff for more complex issues requiring deeper expertise or spare parts.
- Consistently monitor equipment for quality, identifying defects in the print or material such as color mismatches, misprints or registration errors.
- Perform adjustments on the fly to ensure consistent quality throughout the production run.
- Inspect completed runs for overall product quality and work with the quality control team to ensure products meet specifications.
- Oversee the proper handling and storage of paper stock, ink and other pressroom supplies and materials to minimize waste and maximize the life of raw materials.
- Monitor the inventory of consumables and parts, ensuring that needed items are reordered and stock levels are adequate to avoid delays.
- Assist with the loading/unloading of raw materials and finished products, ensuring timely availability for the next production cycle.
- Communicate effectively with press operators, supervisors, and other team members to ensure a smooth transition between shifts and clear handoffs of ongoing production activities.
- Help coordinate production schedules, ensuring that the equipment is set up and running efficiently according to planned timelines.
- Adhere to safety protocols at all times, ensuring a safe work environment by properly handling equipment, materials, and chemicals.
- Regularly inspect equipment and the work environment for potential safety hazards, reporting any issues immediately to management.
- Follow lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures when servicing or maintaining machinery.
- Complete required production documentation including machine logs, material usage, downtime logs and maintenance records.
- Report on any deviations from standard operating procedures, providing feedback to improve overall processes.
- Provide feedback and suggestions to supervisors on operational improvements including equipment modifications and adjustments for higher efficiency or reduced downtime.
- Actively contributes to team-driven initiatives for process optimization such as reducing waste, improving efficiency and minimizing downtime.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss ongoing challenges, share insights and contribute to troubleshooting or workflow improvement ideas.
- Maintain a clean and organized pressroom, ensuring tools, materials and equipment are stored in proper locations.
- Dispose of waste materials properly and keep workstations tidy to maintain a professional and safe working environment.
- Perform other tasks as assigned to support press operations.
What You'll Need
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certification in printing, bindery, mechanical trades, or technical skills is preferred but not mandatory.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a pressroom or related manufacturing environment, particularly working with Offset or Flexo presses, Cutters (including Die Cutters) or numbering lines.
- Experience in troubleshooting press operations and machines and performing mechanical maintenance is highly valued.
- Strong understanding of print or bindery processes, from setup to finishing.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, machine manuals and other technical documentation.
- Proficient in basic machine maintenance such as lubrication, cleaning and part replacement.
- Ability to make accurate adjustments to machinery to maintain print quality.
- Skilled in using pressroom tools and machinery to support production goals.
- Ability to perform basic math and measurements for material usage and adjustments.
- Basic computer skills to navigate production systems, log production data and complete necessary documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently produce high-quality work.
- Ability to work well in a diverse environment.
