Summary

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Senior Predictive Modeler provides advance technical and quantitative support to build, test, validate and maintain complex predictive models that contribute to the profitable business or products; the incumbent is responsible for performing and coordinating the successful completion of various actuarial projects relating to analyzing, summarizing, and reporting of complex and detailed financial information. ****This position will sit onsite in our West Des Moines, Iowa location*** ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Builds, tests, validates and maintains complex predictive to forecast policyholder behavior. · Explores and utilizes advanced modeling techniques. · Determines necessary data sets and translates data into viable insights and business recommendations. · Performs statistical analysis and actuarial research, drawing business inferences, developing reports and presenting analysis and recommendations that contribute to pricing and financial model enhancement. · Uses MS Excel, MS Access, and SQL to perform experience study administration and reporting. · Creates visualizations, dashboards and/or reports illustrating cause and effect relationships and big data sets into user-friendly, easy to understand presentations. · Contributes to department-wide process improvement efforts, including providing a thorough understanding of existing processes, identifying inefficiencies and developing and prioritizing corrective actions. · Assists monthly monitoring reports on our key actuarial assumptions. · Assists with data analysis on annuity policyholders. · Shares results of analyses and identifies trends outside of tolerance through heatmaps or other automated processes. · Assists in compilation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual surveys. · Assists in the preparation of materials for the Assumption Approval Group. · Troubleshoots and resolves data reporting problems. · Performs complex analysis and management reporting regarding policy and product related data and reinsurance. · Performs ad hoc analyses as the business need dictates. · Performs other related work as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct Reports: None General Description of Indirect Reports (2 and 3-downs): None EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in actuarial science, math, statistics, data science or other related field of study; plus five (5) or more years of insurance related predictive modeling experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Strong experience with writing advanced SQL and a comprehensive understanding of relational databases is required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS: None KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong knowledge of predictive modeling techniques, principles and best practices. Advanced knowledge of R, Python or another statistical software. Demonstrated ability to implement findings from predictive modeling analyses. Solid understanding of database and data mining principles. Strong customer service orientation. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong systems aptitude and analytical skills. Advanced mathematical skills and strong attention to detail. Ability to work cooperatively and successfully with employees, customers, and other outside third parties. Strong organizational and planning skills. Proficient in the use of MicroSoft Office Suite. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical/operational procedures. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to successfully handle pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
