Summary

The Powertrain Architecture and Modeling team develops a parametric vehicle model that is utilized for vehicle architecture design, performance evaluation, and decision making. As a member of the team, you will be responsible for the development, utilization, and validation of component and system models in a generalized capacity. You will use the model to guide design teams in trade-off studies, facilitate multi-objective optimization, and communicate performance expectations and requirements through the engineering lifecycle of various products and initiatives. Your work will be highly cross functional with Chassis, Cell, Battery, Thermal, and Drive System Engineering teams. * Advance the capabilities of and intellectual property of Tesla's in-house powertrain performance model * Work with the model to produce repeatable and dependable results for various stakeholders within the organization * Effectively communicate modeling study results to drive architecture and performance initiatives * Develop a consistent framework for reporting progress of model and component development as components go from conception to prototype to full-production status * Excellent first-principles physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, energy storage and transformation, and basic thermo and aero-dynamics * Hybrid or electric powertrain component model development and data analysis in MATLAB/Simulink * Experience with advanced model development, preferably in MATLAB/Simulink * Experience with large datasets and complicated models * Strong communication skills and preference for working in teams * Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience
