Job Description
We are currently seeking a Power Plant Engineer for our Baltimore Maryland facility. In this role you will assist the Plant Management team with developing, planning, and executing power plant system and equipment repairs. This position will be utilized to drive the use of Reliability Engineering practices. High levels of performance and achievement in this role will provide opportunities of advancement into supervisory and potentially management roles.
What You'll Do...
- Participates in the continuous improvement of safety regarding routine, infrequent, and outage related tasks in a VPP certified facility.
- Monitors and performs periodic tests on the operations of the plant to determine operating characteristics and efficiencies.
- Participates in budget and outage planning.
- Performs outage related functions. This includes the directing and tracking of all boiler tube wear rates utilizing Ultra Sonic Testing profiling.
- Completes and documents thorough inspections of boiler and furnace gas path components during outages.
- Completes plant budgeted projects from the development of work scope to the commissioning and startup of new equipment or system.
- Create and revises preventive maintenance procedures as needed.
- Participates in the engineering of plant modifications and improvements.
- Proficient with PI Datalink and capable of analyzing power plant operating data.
- Maintains plant data files. Includes maintaining machinery history.
- Participates in special projects as directed.
- Establishes standards and policies for pollution control, installation, modification, quality control, testing, operating procedure, inspection, and maintenance of equipment, and oversees maintenance of plant buildings
- Helps to direct the maintenance of plant buildings and coordinates requirements for new designs, surveys, and maintenance schedules for equipment and machinery.
- Prepares bid sheets and contracts for mechanical contractors, and for construction and facilities acquisition activities.
- Tests newly installed machines and equipment to ensure fulfillment of contract specifications.
- Writes reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals as directed.
- Effectively presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Completes the Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the time frame prescribed.
- Follows standard safety procedures, corrects safety and environmental hazards, and reports them to the Shift Supervisor immediately. Reads, understands, and applies information such as, lockout/tag out procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Recognizes, analyzes, resolves, and implements solutions to engineering problems.
Who You Are...
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field. Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, Environmental or Facilities Engineering preferred.
- 2-3 years working in a power plant environment preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of the operation and control of a steam generating power plant preferred.
- Possess mechanical skills sufficient to perform such routine tasks as opening vessel and equipment access doors, placing and removing furnace access equipment, overhead protection and staging, operating power tools, and performing minor mechanical repairs to plant equipment or structures.
- Reliability Engineering Certification a plus.
