Responsibilities
AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a Platform Systems Engineer (Assoc. Principal) to join our high-performance team supporting critical DoD initiatives.
As an Associate Principal Platform Systems Engineer, you will:
* Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure computing platforms across cloud and on-prem environments, ensuring seamless integration of hardware, OS, middleware, and software components.
* Translate system architecture strategies into platform-specific requirements and configurations; ensure traceability to customer needs and compliance with regulatory standards.
* Define and monitor platform performance metrics, automate environment readiness testing, and support verification and validation for system deployment and sustainment.
* Establish and enforce platform engineering standards, infrastructure documentation practices, and DevSecOps-driven procedures across development and production environments.
* Collaborate with cybersecurity, software, and network teams to ensure platform security, reliability, and operational continuity.
* Write and maintain technical documentation-including configuration guides, operational procedures, and deployment checklists-to support platform lifecycle management.
* Engage with stakeholders to understand mission requirements and shape platform solutions that align with evolving system needs and technical roadmaps.
* Manage both Linux (RHEL) and Windows systems, including user/admin control, network configuration, storage, and patch management.
* Provide Tier III support for virtualization environments (e.g., VMware) and enterprise-class storage systems (e.g., EMC SANs).
Qualifications
Eligibility Requirements:
* Active Top Secret with SCI eligibility
* Bachelor's degree + 10 years of platform engineering experience (additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
* Current DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent)
Technical Proficiency:
* Expertise in secure enterprise architectures across cloud/on-premise environments (IL5-IL6+)
* Hands-on experience with infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Puppet)
* Knowledge of STIGs, RMF, and DoD cybersecurity standards
* Experience with containers (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
* Proficient in Linux (RHEL), virtualization, automation, and cloud services
* Familiar with Windows, VMware, and EMC SANs
* Strong troubleshooting in classified environments
* Experience in automation and platform monitoring tools
Value Added Knowledge & Experience:
* Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices
* Exposure to monitoring/logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, ELK, Grafana)
* Technical documentation and config management experience
* Cross-functional team collaboration in secure environments

Pay Transparency Statement
AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $129,800.00/Yr. - USD $216,700.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
