Job Summary

The Production Supervisor for the Plastics Department is responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and executing the daily production schedules. Setting daily work assignments, ensuring equipment is performing to standard, performing housekeeping checks, scrap reporting, inventory management, and hourly mentoring employees. The production supervisor is also the primary point of contact for the first-response team, managing safety and accidents and reviewing material requirements and practices. They also enforce facility rules for all employees within the workgroup.

Essential Functions

  • Directs the shift to ensure on-time production and delivery of the finished goods production plan.
  • Supervises and coordinates daily activities of personnel manufacturing parts and components in accordance with specifications and quality standards
  • Responsible for all training within the department, to include:
    • New employee training (onboarding)
    • Bill of materials, specification sheet, transactions, and quality training
    • All other training required for employees to properly fulfill the essential functions of their position
  • Conduct a pre-shift meeting every day to share information, verify attendance, check for PPE, and provide training as required
  • Reviews the production schedule and verifies specifications and requirements to determine the process, materials, machines, tooling requirements, and operations sequencing
  • Learn and understand the current standard operating procedures in place and make recommendations for improvements
  • Conduct in-process inspections and verified finished parts to determine continuous piece and process quality conformance
  • Properly communicate with employees and keep all employees informed of Company matters
  • Develop a performance-driven culture by adhering to systems and processes in place and making recommendations for improvement. Responsibilities will include:
    • On-time delivery of quality products.
    • Pace of work and productivity, on-time clocking, reporting to workstation, lunch/break clocking, and break coverage
    • Uniform and PPE compliance
    • Vacation planning, approval, and policy adherence.
    • Monitoring employee attendance
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving employee timecards for payroll, as well as any changes to timecards via punch change requests
  • Responsible for awards and discipline for employees on the shift
  • Confer that 5s standards and good housekeeping are being met with the highest standards
Knowledge Of

Ability To/Training Requirements

  • Must understand and follow all departmental safety rules
  • Read and understand written assembly instructions
  • Understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • ISO sections about the position

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred but not required. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-5 years’ experience in injection molding with good plastic processing knowledge preferred
  • Previous supervision experience with good leadership and communication skills
  • Strong troubleshooting, evaluating, and correcting process conditions
  • Start-up and shut down of all machines and auxiliary equipment
  • Must have good mechanical knowledge
  • Must have good hands-on skills
  • Must have good computer skills
  • Good vision (this can be accomplished with corrective lenses), central and peripheral vision in both eyes to detect objects or movement in the field of view

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: The physical demands and working conditions requirements indicated below are examples of the demands that must be performed in carrying out the essential job functions.

Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, walking use of central and peripheral vision, and hearing (up to continuously); speaking/verbal communication, bend/stoop, twist neck and torso (frequently); air travel; frequent use of computer and telephone requiring finger, hand, and arm movement; occasionally carry office supplies and other miscellaneous items up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to temperatures commensurate with outdoor seasonal temperatures.
